Have Stellaris traditions ever really been something other than that for the most part? And as for those mods you posted earlier, I’ve greatly enjoyed some of them in the past, and some of their tress do go a bit further, but a good chunk of them are still just percent modifiers or + bonuses, like vanilla Stellaris.

Just as I feared, new traditions are nothing but +10% and +1's tossed around, with zero improvement and/or innovation
Not true.

Domination was nerfed into nothingness. (loss of influence)

I'm still sad the finisher for espionage isn't the ability to run two spies in the same country (for multiple operations or for one building up spy network while the other runs an operation etc.). I was really hoping, you know?

(Since they basically said, back when they were first working on it, that you'd be able to run multiple operations, but later removed it since it created too many things for people to think about, but obviously if you're going all in on espionage that doesn't apply the same way so it'd be a cool 'sorta-game-changer' effect for espionage).

By all critics and ideas here, lets see what future stuff they are planning. They are reworking the system now to an open system, future expansions and ideas can be easily integrated. Locking certain policies like the trade value one behind the mercantile tradition is a very good idea and can be a powerful tool.

But i have to agree, my empires ethics should be represented by the traditions with a variety of generic ones which fits to every kind of playstyle. Everyone with a certain unique feature, not only some modifiers.

I think Traditions should indeed serve as a cultural dinstinction, and I wish traditions unlocked more unique buildings and districts.

Like a warrior race bent on galactic conquest would turn their fortresses into full-fledged military districts.

Researchers would get research districts.

Traders commercial.

Stuff like that.

Ok here's an example of good approach to traditions as a concept. Expanded traditions mod:

And effects:

Bonuses ae non-trivial, interesting. Of course not all of them but significant part. There are many tradition mods devs could draw inspiration and ideas from, just stay away from +5% to something as a geeral filler for traditions.
This does look like a micro heavy game exploit, hire as many scientists as you have planets, put them on science ships and let them help research on every planet, if it is a science planet or not. As soon as they reach level 2 fire them and hire new ones.

Edit: Regarding topic, every tradition tree could unlock a specific ascension perk, those could require an overhaul anyway.

Well, after several plays new traditions are what they were - some indistinguishable bonus of +1.23% to this and +2.001% to that. Nothig feels like you are a mecrcantile race - the only indicator is that you get a +10% to trade. Nothing unique about it, it is the same band Imperator traditions.
