Course of gameplay. I’d probably put almost everything but the specific conquest achievements in that category.

But that wouldn’t be my ideal setup, it’s just something I think would be more likely and cause less user uproar than my ideal setup. Really I’d prefer everything be unlocked at all times.
Well, it's trivial to create a mod with a player only decision to give millions of whatever the currency is.

It's also possible to use a mod to alter how the inheritance coding works, so that an artificially large weight is given to the player.

It'd mean that the course of gameplay achievements would essentially become "download and run this mod, click a few decisions, and you've got achievements X, Y, and Z.

Yes, I understand the reason for restricting achievements. I just don’t agree with the basic premise that it matters if people can cheat for achievements.

If you don't see any point to achievements in the first place, as some on here do, then what's the point in trying to get them?

If you do see the point in them existing, then surely you get that they're a trophy for beating the (unmodified) game in small ways?

Dude you read my first post in this thread? I don’t think they’re a reward for beating the game in certain ways, I think they’re a system of fun little set goals. I don’t care how other people accomplish those goals.

I think cheating for them invalidates the point of them on a personal level, since the only reason for wanting one is saying “this happened.” But I don’t think what someone does for their achievements invalidates them for other people. Achievements are a personal reward.

If they're just a personal reward, why not just set your own goals that are worthwhile rather than "arranged royal marriage" and the like? Why bother with "official" rewards?

I think Paradox can get better data from dedicated telemetry and I don’t care about the user comparison part. I do occasionally look at the achievements percentages, but it’s not something I would really care about being removed. And they’re not properly accurate now anyway because plenty of people don’t play ironman in the first place.

I do set my own goals. I don’t generally explicitly “target” achievements. But it’s also fun to have these little things in the game too. But if you are someone who explicitly goes for achievements, how others are getting their achievements doesn’t matter in my opinion. I don’t think getting the Ryuku WC achievement would feel worse if there was potential for some other people to cheat it. That wouldn’t change the fact that it’s a difficult achievement to get legitimately.

Off the top of my head, I'd say flags, portraits, different looks to the map, maybe country colours, and name lists are probably the limit. At a push UI redesigns could qualify.

And music mods.

Yes, please. I often play EU4 with some of the map and border color mods, and one or two music mods, and I play almost exclusively in ironman. Not just for achievements, but they're a nice "reward" if I get one or two during a play-through. So, yeah, hope they do allow some mods with ironman for I:R.

Controversial opinion:

Achievement is a waste of time that does nothing but boost people's e-pride and takes away development time since achievements have to be scripted and checked by the event system.

At the very least you have to admit the fact that achievements offer alternative ways to play, strategy, or new nations ideas to play that most if not all players wouldn't be able to think for themselves as personal goals to start a new campaign. They can be an essential guideline in experiencing all the different features and experiences the game has.

This! They surely aren't necessary, but in pds games they add a bit of flavour
