Do North Americans only convert to Christian religions?

I've done a lot of playthroughs as a Sunni colonizer (especially with Brunei... God I love Brunei).

Despite taking over the entire Americas several times, I've never ever seen North American nations convert to Sunni. They do often convert to Catholicism due to the proximity of Spanish/Portuguese colonies.

Is this hard-coded? If so, why? If the big colonial power in the Americas was Sunni, wouldn't it stand to reason that some North American powers would convert?

Wiki says "Totemist and Animist pagans get events to convert to Catholic, Protesant or Reformed Christianity if they have neighbors of the appropriate denomination and a sufficient positive opinion with that neighbor", but I believe I've seen something similar to Sunni.

If they own a christian province they can get an event to convert.

PS The same applies to Islamic provinces too.

But how would they get an Islamic province? The only way I can think of is conquering, converting, and then selling it to them or something. But that seems like too much work when you can just conquer them instead.

Hm, I've never seen this happen - and I've seen other Islamic nations colonize aside form myself (Ottos seem to do it fairly regularly nowadays). But maybe I'm not boosting opinion enough. I'll try that in my next playthrough.

There are events that can flip adjacent provinces, so you will rarely see someone go Sunni if you leave land near them long enough and they don't die to a CN.
