Do it make sense to usurp a title with just a press of a button?

I feel it is a bit strange that in CK2 if you meet certain conditions you can take someones title instantly without them being able to do anything other than perhaps declare war as the aggressor to take back the title they held just a few Days/months ago.

Maybe usurpation in CK3 should maybe not be an instant thing and maybe require more Active stuff like warfare or seeking recognition as the rightful ruler of title but I have not looked much into history what would happen if someone tried to usurp a title but it don't feel all that right how it work in CK2:rolleyes:

In order to take someone's title, you have to own a majority of the title's de jure provinces. Getting a majority of those titles isn't an instantaneous process, and it requires active stuff like warfare or inheritance manipulation.

If you arrive at the point where your opponent owns a majority of your duchy, you already had your chance to stop them, and you failed -- instant title flipping doesn't seem that unreasonable.

In CK2 by the time you can usurp a title from someone you have already done the warfare/recognition stuff: the most common instance for usurpation is when you push a duke or king out of their de jure territory and you have occupied it in their place, the victims of usurpation already had a chance at doing something to stop it and failed.

The usurpation mechanic as a whole should be done away with. Rather CK2 itself would work without it. If you want to Title A, you either need to:
  1. Conquer all the provinces of the titleholder and recreate the title.
  2. Conquer all de jure provinces of the titleholder, so that his title is auto-destroyed and you can recreate it.
  3. Get a claim on the title and use it to take the title.

Yeah, perhaps something like having to convince a few key people to recognise you as the rightful title holder. Perhaps you need to get hooks on them, seduce them or pay them etc. I don’t like the idea of ursurping a title being mainly a military thing, but perhaps military force could be used to defend your title.
