do i have to kill my wife?

ok, so i'm the king of ireland. i married a scottish princess as my second wife. we finally have a son(huray). he's 6. scotland is falling apart. i press my wife's weak claim for the kingdom of scotland and win. so now my son is heir to both kingdoms. empire here we come!

the problem is there is a strong duke(of albany, i believe) who usurped my wife's title. i didn't realize what happened at first, so i reloaded. anyhoo, he revolts this time(instead of just usurping), and we win and imprison him.

now my wife can easily revoke one of his duchies while he's imprisoned, but she won't. if she releases him from prison, i'm afraid he will just usurp the title, and i'll be blocked out. do i have to kill my wife so my son becomes the king of scotland, and me as regent can revoke his title.

i should also mention that she only holds a count title besides the king title. she could easily take one of his titles and give it to my son.

i don't really want to be that kind of king, but i also don't want to miss this opportunity.

You cant be regent of someone outside of your realm. I see only vassal or counselor as their liege's regeant

You don't have to kill her. You'll get a claim when you play as your son either way, so if you don't want to kill, just wait and press the claim yourself.

really? i thought since i was his liege and he was my heir, it would be me. that changes a lot. my wife, the queen, has the genius trait, so any other regent besides me would probably worse than her

i thought so, but since i already won the kingdom, i was hoping to not have to do it again. besides, my kid is gonna have all kinds of vassel problems when i die

check the charid, play as the charid of your wife, do what you must to that Duke and then keep on playing as yourself.

You can view it all as what history will look back on as the wars of the scottish succession. Also, if your wife isn't revoking titles, you may want to check that Scotland isn't stuck at autonomous vassals.

thanks, that's a good idea, and i'm not above a little 'cosmic nudge' in my games. as long as they make sense. and this seems a no brainer for my wife.

i just never realized i could do it.

Awww, don't cheat If your wife lets the guy go, just kill him instead.

Though that may not help if his successor is even better, ouch.

Let him rot in jail. Worst case scenario, he usurps your wife's title and your son inherits a claim on it. Much better than cheating until you get all the cards to fall as you want them.
