so i want to buy hoi4, do i have to have that steam thingy??? i dont want to put my creditcard details in, buy it, then get told i have to install steam.

You need Steam to install the game, for updates, and for multiplayer. If it's like previous games you can copy the game out of your Steam directory after installation and run it separately, if you're not using multiplayer or updating it.

If you want Steam to get as little money as possible (think it actually is nothing) and PI to get as much as possible then you should purchase it from the PI shop which can be found in the below link.

Yeah when you buy from the Paradox Store you will recieve a Steam Key in which you can activate a product within your Steam library

I held off joining Steam, for a long time, until EU4, because i wanted to play it so bad after EU3 and still took me awhile to buy CK2, i just did not trust it, but i gave in fully and now own 130 games and counting. I never had a issue with it, not once. So give it a shot.

If you fear for your credit card info you can buy steam credit in shops like GameStop. Or you can get them online on Amazon or other sites. Steam isn't too bad I've had no problems with it, but I've heard stories of steam messing up on people. Although I wish you all the best and hope this helps!

You can also just use paypal. Also the PI shop sells steam keys and using that also is the way that PI gets the most money from your purchase. Though some people have had problems using credit cards in it due to the hightened security as a result of it currently being targeted by fraudsters. I have never had problems using it with paypal though. Apparently using firefox to use it might also help in not getting rejected due to suspicious behavior.
