1. Do guarantees made by AI nations ever expire? My next intended victim has been guaranteed by the main powers for seems like decades.

2. What does it mean that a country is “broken”. I have seen that message for countries taken over by rebels, but don’t know the consequences.

3. I have taken over some provinces in war with the intention of giving them to my vassals (want to keep the number of my own provinces to the minimum as I understand that otherwise my tech and frequency of slider moves will terribly stagnate). However, the “sell province” option is grayed out and disabled for every country. Any idea why?

4. There is the option to destroy a CoT. What would the advantage of ever doing that would be?

5. As a general rule should I keep a good “stability modifier” advisor on the payroll even if my stability is 3? On a related note, is there a point in building temples if I don’t seem to have stability issues?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

1. Guarantees expire after 20 years.

2. If rebels can hold a country's capital for a while, the country is "broken" and the rebel demands automatically imposed.

3. You can't sell provinces while at war.

4. I am guessing increased income from your other CoT? Maybe a CoT not discovered by others yet...

5. At the start of the game, when your income is small, good stability advisors do wonders for your country.. Once you Blob, you do not really need them... regarding the neccessity to build temples, dunno, I always build them

4. More money goes to the other CoT... This is good if you have a rival who has a CoT near you... By dissolving it most of the provinces that would supply that CoT will supply yours now increasing its worth.

5. Theres no use to keep him on your payroll unless you know your gonna do stuff where the stability will be going down. Building temples increases how fast you get stability.. This is useful as when you expand stability gets harder to achieve.

1. Yes, but they can always just reguarentee the country as soon as it expires, so you may never notice.

2. I'm pretty sure when a nation breaks it gives in to all the rebels in the country at the time, not just the ones holding the capital. Since when France breaks there are usually like 3 or 4 new nations proclaiming independence.

5. I wouldn't, unless there are no other advisers worth hiring to replace them with. Stability advisers seem to be very common, so there isn't much point holding on to them because you can always hire a new one when you need him.
I always build temples, they seem to help... never studied it or anything though. It seems like they would become more useful as your empire got larger. They probably do next to nothing for a little nation.

Thanks for the answers.

I will try a few more questions:

6. UI – I have seen screenshots that seem to show a combination of the political and terrain map. How does one set that? I can only toggle one or the other.
7. Since, from what I understand, Portugal always takes over the eastern coast of North America early, I was planning on colonizing from the Pacific (should have a core on Sinai by late 15th centaury. Is that even feasible?
8. Will I be able to recruit explorers without naval tradition?

Thanks for any input you can provide

Going back to 4, there's also a compete chance penalty in foreign CoTs when you own a non-core CoT, so if you ended up conquering a poor CoT you might prefer to destroy it and not suffer the penalty.

6. No such thing, you might have seen someone with a map mod or something though. If you point out a screenshot someone should know what it is.
8. Yes, but you know you need the quest for the new world idea, right?

7. Sure, the AI can take a long time to settle the Pacific coast of the Americas, except sometimes they snatch up the Inca lands quickly and spread out from there. They will also have mostly settled Central America and Mexico (since a lot of those provinces are both east and west coast), but western North America and parts of western South America should still be available. Plus, you will be in excellent position to monopolize on India and the Indonesian islands, which will actually bring you much more money than most colonies in the Americas.

8. Yes, they will just be really junk as admirals, so don't expect them to lead your navy to any glorious victory or anything. :p Other than that they work just fine.
