Pottering along in a Ryukyu game which started as a "Let's see exactly how bad it could be" (No real intent of a WC, I would be hard-pressed to do a WC with my ongoing Spain game and I got a big empire there) which then became a "Hot damn, people are leaving me alone. Time to colonise.... TO AMERICA" (Because the thought of a Japanese OPM beating Spain/Portugal there made me LOL. Hard.).

And then I get a mission to colonise Shiribeshi... I think, OK fair enough I got this... and then noticed it's right above Japan. Like, has a land-bridge to Fujiwara territory right above. Yeeaaah... mebe not.

If I decide to throw this island section into my mad colonising frenzy, is there a chance the AI will decide to enact that damn CB which it seems every seafaring nation in the area has?

Side note, it's nearly 1500... and no-one else has colonised. Seriously. Spain and Portugal seem to be content to fight over North Africa and France actually looks like France. Might I actually beat Spain to the America's after all? (Big killer at the moment is Guam -> Hawaii... I've found it, barely, but all that open ocean -_-)

I think that AIs like to use whatever CB they have, including "Colonial Conquest," so your islands nearby might be stomped.

If Spain and Portugal continue fighting over North Africa, France is going to colonize America, and if England formed GB, then England will too. You'll be able to colonize the western seaboard, however, as that'll be out of their reach for at least 50 years after their first colony.

The hard thing about Ryukyu is their shitty heathen religion. They start out with great sliders and the protection of the ming.

I haven't done the world conquest thing, but I can see how to do it: even with chinese tech, it's perfecetly possible to reach tech parity with the west by 1650, after that it should be fairly simple.

Yeah, all those nice things like valid CB's just don't seem to happen :(

I took two early stab hits to conquer Undong (When Khmer was down to 2 provinces and the other fell in time for me to annex) and that little one next to Brunei... But as it's currently 1490-something, I'm pretty sure I've missed the WC boat. Or at least the good start for one. Which is fine, this is as much a learning game as it is a "Hey, this would be a neat idea..." one.

I've heard about some of the dodgy ways to force-change religion, but at this stage I'm grinning and bearing it until I can convert to Catholicism or the like. Almost slider-ready for Westernisation, just need a neighbour thats actually ahead of me tech-wise :(

setting discoveries to 200 years will help you build up in the americas before the europeans find you-if you have a strong fleet, you may be able to grab bahrain for the first westernise move, then somewhere in west africa for the second, since this will keep your american holdings secret for a bit longer......to build a tech deficit, simply put all your investment into land/navy/govt-with minuscule neighbour bonuses and being DotF you will soon be 20 behind....
