So, playing as America, the Mexicans decided to try a perfidious War of mexican aggression.

They seized Oregon, but I smashed most of their armies. (Now granted, Mexico's bottomless well of manpower existed, but I can handle it).

So I march down the coast, and seize Mexico City. Urrah!

Except...

It turns out that seizing Mexico City was worth... 2.7 victory points. Should this be so? It seems like occupying a naitn's capital, in this period, tended to end up with nations capitulating.

i dont think the game focuses on caoitals AT ALL. when I am playing as a more unknown country i have NO idea what my capital is and also there is no button to find it.

I think it is strange as well

Yep. Was in a massive war vs. Russia as poor little Prussia. When I finally got to St. Petersburg I was really looking forward to cutting Russia down to size. Except that measly 1% only made my warscore go to 31% :-(

I am not sure whether I like this or not. It seems realistic that a nation would give up quicker when you come knocking on the parliaments door...
Or maybe I am just tainted because of my extra long war with no bonus at the end :)

Nah, the red dot is still there. There is just no bonus as in V1 or eu3. It simply seems that the "richer" or more populous provinces simply give a slightly larger warscore. In my war, a standard russian province would give 0.3% score. Warsaw and St. Petersburg both gave 1%. So better than the others but way less than the 20% bonus from eu3.

On a slightly related topic:
I wonder under which circumstances the capital can be forced to move? In eu3 there were some instances where it was possible to demand a capital province and the capital would be moved someplace else...Could be fun to force russia back to moscow :)

I observed that too. Played with Prussia, conquered Paris and this had nearly no effect. I think this should be fixed. There should be victory points or something else like in HOI3. For example cities with producing factories should count more.

Again, another issue that needs fixed up. I think there are three aspects to this:
1. Capitals should be worth a lot more.
2. Industrial states should be worth a lot more.
3. The warscore necessary to ask for a piece of land shouldn't be absolute. It should be proportional to the total land of the state in question, just as the warscore gained by taking said land is.

3 is a little more complicated: For example, to take Lombardia from Austria-Hungary, you need a warscore of 46. In order to get a warscore of 46, you need to basically conquer all of Austria-Hungary. In real life, Austria-Hungary gave up on Lombardia after a few pitched battles and a few conquered states. The war lasted like 2.5 months...

My attempt to recreate led to a 6 year endeavor which led to full scale mobilization in France, Sardinia, and Austria-Hungary, full blown revolters (almost all of Austria had revolted) and eventual white peace from France, the alliance leader.
Keep in mind, the actual Second Italian War also ended in the annexation of all the Italian minors, while I was just asking for Lombardia. I had already annexed the Italian minors and gained like 80 total infamy for it (!!!)
