The issues are being dealt with. The cause of the problems is known and is being rectified. As with anything else, it takes time. Please be patient.

So there it goes ... another locked post about forum performance.
After months of forum instability have we not shown a lot of patience?
After months of forum instability do we not deserve at least an official statement?

It simply is a bad visit card and it harms the community.
A good community (needs a place to exist who should have some performance) keeps people playing longer, keeps people buying games.

C'mon Paradox is getting EAsified?
Most people interested in such complex games are pretty adult and intelligent.
Everybody makes mistakes. People here can take the truth, just want to be informed.

The forum-server is not the problem. The problem is our firewall keeps crashing. I changed some stuff in its bios yesterday and hopefully that keeps it up longer.

The reason for slowness is lack of bandwidth, and we have ordered a new much faster line a few weeks ago which is in process-of-being-installed, and should be up in 4-5 weeks from now, according to what we were told.

Constructive critisism is fine and ok but there is a limit of quantity after which even the most constructive of critisism doesn´t feel constructive anymore. Naturally I can´t speak for Stonewall, the mod who closed the thread, but this is would be an example of how I´ve experienced it:

Now really, for the n:th time: they really are doing stuff to fix things. But there are legal contracts, delivery times, set-up times, testing and whatever that has to be taken care of first. Things don´t happen overnigth.

It's not against board rules, but the moderators are free to close threads that aren't.

For one, yours was in the wrong place, as OT would have been the right place for it.

I'd guess that it was locked because the moderator felt that the matter has been discussed throughoutly enough already, and the fact that Paradox is (if very slowly) working on the issue has already been stated. Ie. why waste even more of the server bandwith to discuss the same matter over and over again. ;)


Your are right in that we have been patient though. IIRC, the stability and lag problems begun at least a year ago. I lost a quite a few posts to them in the beginning, until I learned to backup my posts...

I think that the problem is in the users previous experience. Nobody actually expected that game devs would post on this forum. Nor anybody expected the admins or moderators to pay attention what users have to say. We users just love to bitch and that's all. Don't get mad if we push it too far.

Now we (probably) know what the problem is, but know at least that fixing is underway and why it takes longer then expected. Now if someone makes another post about the issue everybody can tell him why to shut up ;)

Sure it is no fun for the mods to have repeating posts like "waah I want the patch NOW!" or "the forum sucks!", but if people are uninformed thats what happens. If people are informed the forum usually deals with such posts itself, even with "where is the patch!"-posts

I've had such unresponsive expieriences with other game sites that Paradox seems so much more warm and considerate by comparison...really! I have never seen such devotion to a product line. Companies frequently say (when finally prodded enough) that the game works as desgined, if they had wanted it to work some other way they would have sold it that way... or were they as concerned about historical accuracy as much as the vocal minority they would be out of business.

I don't know much about the computer gaming industry in an economics sense. I can well imagine that if paradox devoted their time to new titles rather than enhancements of ones who they have gotten as much profit as they are going to then they would be much more profitable... and perhaps less admired by us few oddball gamers. So rather than critisize, beg for the next patch, or say they turn out flawed games and then spend months finally getting them right... I say I love the game, everytime you add to it, I like it more. I recently went out and bought the strategy six pack because I know they too will be good games and I want to support a company who supports me.

Thanks Johan for letting us know! It's a good thing that you have managed to find the crash problem. I have been trying to be patient with the forum slowness, but I must confess that during weekend 1+ days crash will make my blood boil. (can't upload my AAR chapters...) :D

This forum is growing and that can mean only one thing: HOI2 is selling well. Great job Paradox! Any way us know how good the sell have been so far? More than HOI during same period? (probably)

Suggestion: copy Johan's response into a new thread, title the thread appropriately, lock and sticky it. Then it will serve as a reference for people when they start to ask what is going on rather than try to search through threads for Johan's response.

Just my opinion:

Paradox is a relatively small company (not comparable to UBI soft for example).
Yet they provide us with unmatched quality of strategy games for quite some time. I wouldn't want to imagine a world without Paradox.
Unfortunately the vast majority of gamers think otherwise. Most gamers don't even know or care about real strategy games.

Now, I would like a perfect world. I would like this forum to be stable. I would like to play a new Paradox game without bugs. I would like a version 1.06c to be version 1.0.

It's just not possible.

All these complaints remind me of a common phenomenon of soccer.
A small club from the 3rd league gets a new coach who is so brillant that he manages to march his team into the 1st league within two years.
Of course the team gets slaughtered in the 1st league, so the coach gets fired after 10 matches...

That is an apt analogy. We have learned to expect so much from Paradox over the years that we forget that they are not a huge corporation with buckets of money to throw at their problems. This forum also used to be a lot smaller, remember that.

Not wishing to turn this into a fanboy thread...

but Paradox really do seem to work hard at getting things sorted. Look across all the boards.. multiple patches/enhancements for all of their games - and for a long time after they have been released. They take onboard feedback for their games and if you have ever needed tech help, you'll know how good Castellon is and Flori seems to be equally impressive over at the e-shop when things fubar.

Compared to a lot of other much larger games companies who throw out a game every three months, patch once and then never bother checking the forums for the game to respond to game breaking bugs reported by players(mentioning no names), Paradox is very impressive in it's customer service.

The server thing can be annoying but if it's getting fixed, it's getting fixed. Or should it be it's getting enhanced..... :D

Just a suggestion, you should probably look into getting a Pix-505 for your firewall, you can get one cheap off ebay, maybe 300 dollars, rock solid and wont crash
