Hello,

So is that worth to buy DLCs to EU4? Res Publica and Wealth of Nations are discounted atm. so I am wondering does it have a lot new and exciting features?

It costs much as some really nice and high rated games so I wonder if it's worth to buy those DLCs instead?

It really depends how into the game you are. If you are a big fan I would say yeah buy them, but wait for the sales, because they do add a good bit to the game.

I would say that the features of a full DLC game are about 90% base game, 10% DLC so as Fionnix said, wait for sales to buy them, they certainly aren't essential.

Pretty much you have to decide if you want the features or not, i dont play a lot of republics so theres little use say, for res publica to me. This game isnt as heavy on lots of DLC that do a lot of things like CK2

Major DLC:

Art Of War: 30 years war mechanics (the reformation and its fallout), better control over armies and naviesCo, and client states. As well a reworked revolution system for late game

Conquest of Paradise: Random-generated New World (Everything west of Portugal and east of Russia is random) playable Colonial nations and expands the mechanics of the Native countries

Res Publica: Mechanics for Dutch Republic and Elective Monarchy, National Focus (boost MP gain for one group while losing in others), improved republic mechanics in general

Wealth of Nations: Privateers (player controlled pirates), trade conflicts, designate a port as a main trade port, trade companies in the old world (as colonial nations only exist in the New). Fervor as a unique Reformed Mechanic

Flavour Packs
American Dream: A bunch of events for the 1776 start date US (Not the colonial revolt US, this is important). Some Unit DLC as well
Purple Phoenix: Events and unit models for Byzantium. Will 99% of the time never matter, ever.
Star and Crescent: Some stuff for the muslims

Minor DLC
All the Music Packs: Honestly they add so little it isnt worth paying for them unless you want them
100 Years War Unit Pack: Adds unit models for a number of western nations
Catholic League Unit Pack: Adds unit graphics for the 30 year war catholic league countries (southern HRE, Papacy and spain)
Colonial British and French Unit pack: Does what it says on the Tin
Conquistadors Unit Pack: Units for Spain and Portugal
Evangelical Union Unit Pack: 30 year war unit pack for France, Scandanavia, england and the northern HRE
Horsemen of the Crescent Unit Pack Calvary for the muslims
Indian Ships Unit Pack Units for indian Navies
Indian Subcontinent Unit Pack : Does what it says
Muslim Advisor Portraits :ives unique advisor pictures for muslims
National Monuments Pack/2 Adds 19 Landmarks to the Terrain view of the map
Native Americans Unit Pack 1/2: 18 native american countries get new units
Trade Nations Unit Pack : See the above
Winged Hussars Unit Pack : Calvary unit models for Poland, Lithuania and dem Ruskies

I would say that the features of a full DLC game are about 90% base game, 10% DLC so as Fionnix said, wait for sales to buy them, they certainly aren't essential.

Having said that, it does depend on whom you're playing as - a Poland game is substantially enriched by Res Publica, a Byzantine game is well more than 10% DLC (Purple Phoenix adds loads of events and decisions), and Res Publica is absolutely indispensable for a Dutch game and, again, provides well more than 10% of a Dutch game's content once you've actually succeeded in forming the Netherlands.

Other DLCs might add stuff more broadly, rather than Res Publica's focus on a few scenarios, but Res Publica and Purple Phoenix and the only non-cosmetic DLC I own, so I have nothing to say about Wealth of Nations. It sounds pretty good, though, as does Art of War.

If you can get any of the four main gameplay DLCs on sale, do it. For ones not on sale, it depends on how much you play and your disposable income situation. If you're likely to play for at least another hundred hours and you have the money to spare, may as well buy all four. In terms of priority, Art of War is pretty essential for anyone who plays a lot, Res Publica and Wealth of Nations are both nice to have, and Conquest of Paradise is good for making New World stuff more interesting and letting you support independence.

I did the math and (for me) Eu4 comes down to about $0.25 an hour. If I compare that to my other favorite hobby, eating, I would have to make a ten dollar pizza last 40 hours. (That ain't happening). As far as I'm concerned, Paradox can make as much dlc as they want and take my money for it. Of course....this is all dependant upon how much time you put into the game.

Of note: DLC are the way to fund Paradox games, especially the long-lived ones such as EU, CK and HoI. Enhanced units look good, but you could think of them also as support for the team.

i really doubt my supporting them by waiting for $1 sales is funding anything of note :p

If i wat for a sale, say, for ck2 potraits, i spend what amounts to an hour of my pay :p
