I hope I am posting this in the right place. The title says all really. For the first time, I am trying to play the game on an unconnected PC and while the DLCs appear in the launcher, they do not in the game. I have all of them except the Ruler designer, Sunset Invasion and the last three. My understanding was that you could use them without an internet connection once they were on your computer.

So my question is, what gives? Am I doing something wrong or do you have to be online to use the Gamersgate DLCs?

Thanks.

Hi Third Angel,

Did you copy the dlc's into the dlc folder, or did you download them through Gamersgate in-game store? If I'm right, you at least have to have been logged in once in the gamersgate in-game store in order to be able to play with the dlc's enabled.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I am on vacation at my parents-in-law, they have two houses near each other. In the first one, I downloaded the DLCs through the in-game store via wi-fi, and they work fine when my laptop is there. In the second one, I cannot access wi-fi and when I launch the game from there, the DLCs appear in the launcher but not in-game.

Not to be disrespectful or anything but I have tried to be as clear and complete as I could and I still do not understand why I cannot play with the DLCs in the non-wi-fi house, while surprisingly I can play with them in the wi-fi house even when I log out from the in-game store.

I'm sorry for the late reply, just to confirm: This is on the exact same pc and you connected at least once with this computer and logged in to gamersgate while having Wifi? I've sent a note internally to see if there's more information about using DLC's of the GamersGate version while being offline.

Yes, I download them and they work just fine in the wifi house even when I log out from the in-game store, then I take the laptop to the wifi-less house fifty yards further and the DLCs are not there anymore. They are still on the computer, even the launcher shows them but once I come to the starting screen, the game ignores them.

Thank you. This is not that big a deal as I will be home ten days from now but I have always heard that you could play the game offline so I would like to be sure. There may be occasions when I find myself without an internet connection in the future, one never knows.

This sounds like an old issue the GG DLCs used to have. What version and checksum shows on the main game menu? Have you re-downloaded the DLCs from GG as required by the later patches?

I have version 1.103 and I did redownload the DLCs as required by the latest patches. I used to have the correct checksum before I slightly modified one event file but I cannot recall at which point my issue appeared, before or after I edited the event file. Could the game not recognize the DLCs only because the checksum is wrong? That sounds weird as I imagine modders can still use DLCs with their mods.

Anyway, if you or IcratoX have no better idea, I will try and reinstall the game and the DLCs all over again, and see how it goes.

I've been testing out if the dlc worked on my own laptop when cutting the internet connection (updated to the latest patch + all dlc's except for 1 cosmetical dlc) weird enough I've been able to access the dlc's, or at least the major ones, without problems. So maybe a reinstall would do it, I will test today somewhere if I can change my checksum and whether or not that affects accessing the dlc while being offline. Btw, this is also on a Gamersgate version of the game.

To be sure, I'd do a full clean re-install:

  • Important: Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\save games\' and copy all the save games you want to keep outside the folder
  • Uninstall Crusader Kings II
For Steam users: uninstall the game from within steam by right clicking on the game and select "Delete content".
  • Go to the folder where you installed Crusader Kings II in, and check if the Crusader Kings II folder is removed. If not, delete the entire folder
For Steam users: Installation folder can be found at: '..\Steam\SteamApps\common\'
  • Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\' and remove the entire Crusader Kings II folder
  • Reinstall the game, make sure you install the game outside the 'C:\Program Files\' or 'C:\Program Files (x86)\' folders, as it can cause issues with permissions

Ok, so I did reinstall the game and the DLCs, and AndrewT had it right, it must have been a checksum issue.

I still find it weird that messing up with your checksum will have no effect while your computer is connected to the internet while it will disable the DLCs if you are offline. Sounds like a bug. Anyway, I will try and set up my modified event file in the moddir to keep the correct checksum.

Thanks to both of you.

Glad you worked it out and thank you for reporting back, you might actually want to report this as a bug and then refer to this thread.

The thing is, now that I have set up my modified culture_conversion_events file through a moddir, which also changes the checksum, the DLCs still work offline.

So the issue really seems to appear only when you modify directly the files in the game folder. If you think this is still worth a bug report, I may do it, but I will not investigate further as I do not want to reinstall the game/DLCs once more with the poor internet connection I have at the moment.

Hmm...have you been logged into the ingame store when you restarted the game and did you reupload all DLCs that were necessary to reupload ?

The problem with not recognising DLCs had usually been solved, by staying logged in while quitting and restarting the game.
Just saying as i have followed this thread the past days and i'm not sure if you did as i wrote above.. Just my 2 cents.
