Seeing this thread's title, I thought the game had come out. Lawd, we're an amusing bunch.
CYA.
An idea that came to me:
EU2 in one of its incarnations had a great scenario where you could play as Vinland, which in this case was a successful Viking settlement in North America that had essentially forgotten all about Europe. It also added in at least one native nation near by, Acadie, so that it wasn't too boring or lonely. I'd love to see something like that return.
While the colonial system is good, I'd like some more flavour and flexibility in regards to it. Maybe the ability to institute a viceroyalty or trade company (name it too?) over colonies you own, then have them as playable entities.
1. Already there in imported games with the aztec invasion. So, anyone have guesses or interesting ideas for future DLC? I'm sure they already have some in the works.
If CK2 is anything to go by, I expect they'll have plenty of unit graphics and song packs, and maybe:
- Something wacky and ahistorical, like a more advanced New World
- Added support for a resurrected or resurgent Byzantium
- Ability to play as various pagan religions in Europe (and not just the save converter; real events and whatnot)
You can get both, songs are made by song people and graphics by graphic people, while gameplay is made by gameplay design and code people. I don't care for aesthetic stuff much either, but they're apparently consistent money-makers. Which makes sense really, some people will pay a buck for a conpletion's sake and it's not really that big of an investment.Actually I don't like to spend money only for some songs or "unit packs" I'd like to see more playability
Now there's an aesthetic DLC I might actually want to buy (assuming it's good).I would really love culture/region based UI
Hey, it works for Bay 12 Games.Yeah, or if they really, REALLY appreciated their fans, they should release the game for free, and keep working on free DLC till the company goes bankrupt.
While I love the system for this in Galactic Civilizations 2, I don't feel it's really appropriate to the scale and gameplay of Paradox games.I'd very much like to see a revisiting and refining of the naval aspects of the game. More ship classes, or even sub-classes as ships within a class could vary a great deal in both size and armament. Perhaps a somewhat abstracted customized construction and upgrading of ships. Also closer historical representation of classes when it comes to for example combat ability and so on. Would be neat in my eyes.
I like the multiple line system, actually. I don't think trees would add anything of value. There is an EU3 mod for that. Very fun and very good.
I would very much like upgraded colonisation mechanics. Just because it could be fun and awesome feeling how each ofyour colonies slowly grows and gets momentum and then some n00b founding father try and take it away from you.
Also I would like idea trees. I know paradox want the ideas to be linear, but you all know that you want trees.
I'm not a DLC fan, yes I know it makes money and what not, but I'll probably just buy the mandatory expansions which I'm sure will come out in time (Divine Wind, etc), even just pre-ordering I feel like I'm throwing what little money I have away.
I'm not sure what version of CK2 you've got that allows you to play outside of Europe and the near east, but I definitely want it!I doubt we'll see the timeline pushed back any further, as we already have CKII
I agree with this, if they put in that, add a whole bunch of extra African and North American nations, formable unions and empires from CK2, (Iberia, Carolingia/Francia, Britannia). Sell it for 10-15 dollars on Steam. There's a DLC.Advance the timeline to 1835 and add some early industrialization events to even it out with the start of Victoria.
I would really love culture/region based UI and music DLCs.
It would really help me soak in the atmosphere of the game even more.

Yes, there are plenty of mods that do lots of things, that doesn't make them legitimate versions of the game. I'm sure we could make the engine into a very resource-intensive fractal generator, too, but that's not my point. There is a mod. You could play the whole world.
They can release as many DLCs as they want, but I hope there aren't any major expansions anytime soon.
Sorry - just had to jump in here. One of the reasons this is only around my 3rd ever pre-order purchase is because of the LOW price for what looks a quality product. Most of the other major games currently in pre-release on Steam are around double the price of EUIV, at least in the view Steam gives my part of the world.[SNIP] I see at least 50+ DLC sets on the horizon. This is why I will not buy the game on release, apart from its high price.[SNIP]

[EDIT] Oh, and on the DLC, I have ALL of it for CKII - some on 75% off sales, some at release, depending on how interesting it looked - my choice of course, but happy with how it built on a very fine basic game.
Agree here. I can't think of a game I've bought in the past year that was cheaper. Civ5 was at least $15 more in 2010, CoH2 was $70 this year, Simcity is on sale now for the same price as EU4 (after being out since March) and I just know something like Sims 4 next year will be ridiculous (as their prices were for Sims 3 and expansions).
My thoughts:
1. Go nuts on the aesthetic DLC. I won't buy it, but if it pays for patches and gameplay stuff I will buy, again, go nuts!
2. The first few big patches for CKII included more cool new stuff than any free patches for games I've ever played (including any Paradox game), so I hope this patch & DLC paradigm continues.
