you really have a bee in your bonnet about this, don't you? Can you honestly think of any good reason Paradox would lie about this and keep releasing them if they were losing money on it? Can you really imagine Johan looking at bad sales figures for DLC and saying "better keep this under my hat.... I'll lie to Baltasar if he asks how popular they are"? Seriously?

Can you just read the whole post instead of starting your little flame? I wrote that I'm just interested and since he wrote that the fans love dlcs, it would've been nice to see something more than just the repetetive argument that they supposedly are.

To anyone who's angry at DLCs: Note how most (all?) the grand strategy DLCs (non-expansions) so far have been made by gamers outside Paradox, adding and changing things in the game that they thought would be cool (i.e. Common Weapons of WW2 (HOI3 by Devildread), Secret Weapons of WW2 (HOI3 by Devildread), Old Vic (V2 by me :) ), and as far as I know all the sprite packs) . How could that be a pre planned strategy by Paradox, that someone might want to release some changes they prefer to their fellow gamers for a few bucks? If anything the Paradox dlc strategy is to let gamers with skill let other gamers benefit from that skill, and at the same time taking a chance and releasing this "out of house" material from unknown gamers. How could anyone have a problem with such a policy? It's great, and as far as I know quite unique.
Whow, great work with the "Old vic" for Vic2 Danevang! Looks pretty pretty good!

Well, I don't see any point why we should have arguments againts DLCs. As long as they are just for flavour (like sprite-packs) and are not adding any core content of the game (like events, for example), I'm fine with them.

Therefore, any complaints about the fact that DLCs are available to the players are somehow same as complaints that certain televisions are broadcasting soup-operas. Don't like them? Don't watch them. Don't like DLCs? Don't use them then. It's fair, isn't it?

Yup!

Your wording and tone imply you think Johan is lying and you need proof. DLCs "supposedly" sell well, Johan saying so is a "repetetive argument" that he needs to prove to you, "Paradox people keep saying that DLCs are just soo successful" we could just be making it up etc etc. Accept that they sell well and move on.

There is no tone in a text, it's people interpreting as they see fit. That said, I merely asked for such numbers out of curiosity, not as a proof. If I was opposed to DLCs in general, I could still choose not to believe you guys anyway. Gee... you guys need to get rid of the idea that each and every remark from me is meant as a personal insult. None of them is.

There's certainly word choice in text. If you don't mean to imply people are being dishonest then you should pay more care to what you write so you are not misunderstood. If you are not requiring "proof" why bring up that a poll "doesn't support" Johan's comment? Etc.

Baltasar's choice of words was this: "I wonder if you would release some numbers of HoI 3 specific DLC sale numbers for the forum mob."

From my point of view he just raised a question which is relevant for the topic.

Of course we don't expect that you will let us go through PI account books :) Additionally, I wouldn't even be offensed in any way if the thread was closed because not many game companies tolerate talk about the company itself on its official forum. That's nice of you!

On topic: If we are trying to somehow put the poll and sales together, I think the question here is: Do the customers of PI and a mainstream game company (let's say EA) feel the same about DLC? DLCs are generally succesfull products these days but do you think that PI customers have some unique characteristics, for example a strong addiction on PI games or possibly a sharper view on DLC? And is there a significant difference between the forum mob (quite well represented in the poll) and the others - probably more than 90% of total customers?

Mind you that English is not my first language and that grammer and ways of expression differ greatly, both in dialects and of course in different languages. Just because you feel I'm impolite it doesn't mean I intend to be.

I was merely stating the fact that the common forum user only has the poll as a quantitive information and that this poll does not correlate with the statement given by Johan.

Right, which was why my previous two posts pointed out why your posts were thought to be hostile, to help avoid such in the future.

So:
Wording - Important.
DLCs - Selling well.

Let's move on.

And is there a significant difference between the forum mob (quite well represented in the poll) and the others - probably more than 90% of total customers?

One problem is that there are different things sold under the same brand name we call DLC. I'd devide those into two basic cathegories: mandatory and nice to have. The nice to have stuff is graphic updates (eg sprite packs), audio related (eg country specific music), non-esssential unit updates (common weapons etc). In short, everything which can in itself make the game even better for the individual player without depriving him of relevant features / units / options if he chooses not to buy them.
The other cathegory is most obvious in so called free-MMORPGs where you can play for free but have to pay small fines for certain items or areas. In such an environment, the game will either be a lot harder to play or the player will not feel competitive without them. I can't think of any DLC from Paradox which would fall into this catheogry, but I assume that some people are afraid of something like this, hence their rather reserved or downright negative view on DLCs. Furthermore, some seem to be afraid that developing DLCs would impact on the quality and "production time" of games and patches, which is not the case either as Paradox stated that DLCs were developed independently. Thirdly, some people probably just want to have the "extras" included in the games without additional payment.
