DLC Not Working

Hi guys, I just bought the DLC Collection through steam for £19.99 and tried to load the game through ck2game.exe and this comes up with a crash every time I do.

I looked online for a solution and renaming this file seems to make it work, although I now can't load it through steam.

However, loading it normally works and I can activate all the DLC's which I have done but whenever I go into the game none of the DLC's work. I can't play as a Merchant Republic/Pagan/Muslim, I can't use the Ruler Creator etc. as it says I don't have the DLC even though in the launcher it displays them.

As you can see it says I don't have various DLC's although in the launcher (see second attachment) it shows that I have all of them. I've tried several reinstalls, verified the game cache through steam, unselected and reselected the DLC in the launcher, everything, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what's wrong?

I have the exact same problem. I might have an idea about what's wrong, though none on how to fix it.
That's gonna be the wrong kind of first messgae on a forum but anyway...A long time ago (seriously, months), I happened to torrent the game (I know, I know...I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it...Anyway, I uninstalled it pretty quickly and waited for a Steam offer.)
Now that I've corrected the error of my ways, is it possible in any way that the game is "stuck" on cracked mode? I mean, it just looks the exact same ^^'

In that case, how do I enjoy this magnificent, full and legal game I've just bought?

It could be, I did that to (just to check if I liked it or not, of course), but now I've bought it on Steam and the DLC's don't load properly which could be due to that but I didn't have any of the DLC's before (apart from two of the smaller ones) so I'm not too sure. I can still play the original game fine but as I've just spent £20 I don't want that just to go to waste.

Yep, obviously, the ingame server has a problem with us. Anyway, very simple solution: Switch Steam to Offline mode, and everything is fine.

I know learned that every bad action has its cost.

Please try installing:

First: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

After that: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

Then right-click on ck2.exe and ck2game.exe and set them to run as the Admin user.
And then check if you can run the game after that.

Still not working for me . The thing is, the game works fine but it's as if I don't have the DLC but as you can see from the screenshots in the OP I do have them, so I don't know what's going on.

Please try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local files" in Steam
- manually delete all files left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a verify when done.

Still nothing. It must be with a new patch because the launcher worked fine before when I played (this was a while ago).

But when you hit Single and go to choose a nation, there are no DLC icons (the small round icons on the centre-left screen) there at all?

Or they are there but appear to be ineffective?

What if you exit Steam entirely, and manually run ck2game.exe - does that behave differently? What if you just manually run ck2.exe ?

It still crashes, I have to rename in to something other than ck2game.exe and it works fine.

When I rename ck2game.exe and run that the launcher shows the DLCs and they can be unselected and selected without issue.

I have to run it manually anyway because in Steam it shows "Missing executable" due to me renaming the file which I have to do to get it to work. If I run ck2.exe then the same thing happens as if I run the renamed ck2game.exe just without the launcher. Nothing seems to work.

Fixed it! I had to update my nVidia drivers and that meant I could use ck2game.exe without it crashing and now the DLCs work .

Really? Wow. I mean I usually recommend that for most issues, but I didn't think of it here because it's hard to see how that could cause the need to rename ck2game.exe ... weird. I don't suppose you have the Comodo anti-virus app, do you? It's known to interfere with the CK2 .exe files.

No, I don't have Comodo. I was just looking at Google and someone said that they couldn't load ck2game.exe because they didn't have up to date nvidia drivers so I just tried that and it worked.

Damn, I'm having a similar problem, possibly the same, but I can't use the same solution. Weird thing is, it was working at first...

After a few months away I decided to start playing CK2 again, steam updated the game, I launched it and everything was working fine - I chose to play as a republic until my batterie run out. I plugged the power cable, restarted my mac (10.6.8) and it resumed at the game. And then CK2 froze, and my nightmare began.

I manually turned the computer off (by holding the power button), turned it on, started steam and run ck2, then an error message regarding launching it appeared and I chose restart. The launch menus appears, with all my dlcs ticked. I launch the game, it loads and when the main menu appears there's no indication whatsoever of the dlcs. I press start a game and again no tiny circles indicating the presence of dlc - and then there was those "can't play as".

Well, I did everything one would expect: checked cache, uninstalled + delete everything, reinstalled, uninstalled steam...

Problem is I'm on a mac I can't update my nvidia card - apparently only updating my OS, and I'm not sure that's the problem, since it did launch the game perfectly once. Damn, I'm pretty frustrated right now.
