  • Crusader Kings II
Hi everybody, i hope you can help me with my problem.
On the 29 of july i bought Crusader Kings 2 and the DLC collection on steam, and i installed the whole thing on my Mac.
Now that i came home from holidays and can dedicate myself to the game, i wanted to try it.
The game works perfectly, but the problem is that i can't enjoy the DLCs: when i launch the game, the first little window informs me that i owe all the DLCs, and all of them are ticked. Nevertheless, when i start a game i find i cannot start with any of the Muslim countries (i have the Sword of Islam), neither can i start with any of the Heathen of the north. So i suppose that somehow my DLCs are not working, and i wonder how.
After some browsing, i found others had my problem: some solved it by checking the game cache, some other by ticking-off all the DLCs in the first window after game launch, start game, exit, ticking-on all the DLCs again and then start game again. Unfortunately, this didn't work for me.
Thanks everybody for the attention, i hope you can help.

P.s: the game is installed in Spanish, i wonder if the DLCs only work in English, though my Civilization 5 DLCs worked perfectly in Spanish...

No, Spanish is nothing to do with it.

Have you exited Steam and restarted it since downloading the DLCs?

Did running the game cache verify find anything to fix?

What version and checksum show on the main game menu?

When you start the game and click on Single Player, on the left side about 2/3 of the way down the screen you get a round icon for each of the 5 major DLCs you own - are ANY of those showing?

I just exited and restarted Steam, but nothing has changed.
When i verify the game cache, in the end it says "everything has been convalidated" (just did it again, to be sure, and another time is all ok)
I apologise, i am quite a newbie, so i am not sure this will be the answer to your question about the version and checksum: i read 1.111(MLYP) in the screen in the main menu.
About the start on Single Player, no, on the left i find nothing but the stuff on the top and the three suggested starts...nothing about the DLCs.

Well that is weird, it works perfectly fine on my Mac. Are the dlc files there in Documents CK2 /dlc/ ? there should be 2 for each dlc, a .zip file and a .dlc file.

Either way, let's try a full clean reinstall: move any valued save games elsewhere and uninstall the game from within Steam. Then manually delete ALL the CK2 directories from under BOTH the Steam and MyDocuments folders (exact locations documented in the sticky FILE LOCATIONS thread above). Now reinstall the game from Steam, and run the Verify just to make sure it all came down properly.

The dlc files are present, but not in the Documents/ CK2 (where i have folders like "gfx" "interface", "logs", "map", "save games" and two texts, "dlc_signature" and settings.txt) but instead i found them on Library/ Application Support/ Steam/ Steam apps/ Common/ CK2/ dlc (all of them folders) and the dlc folder contains all the files, both .zip and .dlc files, as you mentioned. Could it be that the DLCs are not working due to a bad placement? I mean, do i have to move the dlc folder into my Documents in order to have them working properly??

Ok, so let's try to uninstall it.

I have to admit i am not so good at these things... anyway, now i have to uninstall it from within Steam and then i have to delete all the elements about CK2 both from My Documents and the Steam folders? Can we say i just have to delete everything from it? (don't worry about my saved games, i just started and, more important, still suck at it, so they are not so valuable)

Correct, my error. It's under /Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/crusader kings ii/DLC/

Yes, you should delete everything without exception from under both those CK2 directories.

Ok, since my brother has a "valuable game", i moved the ""saved games" folder on my desktop, then dragged all the rest (both from the Documents and Steam) to my trash. Then i uninstalled from Steam and re-installed the game, but unluckily, this gave no results.
Maybe i did something wrong:

1) Did i move my Saved Games in the wrong place, or in the wrong way? I noticed i can backup my files, when i go to "Uninstall game", do i have to do it?

2) Maybe just move to the trash is not enough...do i have to empty my trash?

3) The game keeps on telling me i have a code, which i still haven't used, basically cause i still haven't found where the hell should i input it...does it have something to do with my problem?

P.s: thank you both guys for the help you are giving me, really appreciate it.

When you say "this gave no results", do you mean the game now does not work at all? Or just that the DLC still don't work?

You have used the code, to register your game here. Now that's done, you can tick the "don't show me this any more" box. It has nothing to do with playing the game.

You could try unzipping the .zip files in the /dlc/ directory - it shouldn't be necessary but try a few of them anyway.

You are right, i haven't been clear: i mean that everything is like it used to be, perfect game but no Dlcs...

I remember now bout the code...

I found the .zip files and unzipped all of them: this opened a bunch of folders (mainly containing music and clothings, i can see) but nothing changed to my game, and the Dlcs are nowhere inside the game.

P.s: just to be sure i checked on the steam store the Dlcs i am more interested, and both The Old Gods and Sword of Islam are "already purchased".
I am not a ma of faith, nevertheless i am starting to lose my faith (whatsoever it could be...)

OK, go to the properties of the game in Steam. Click on the DLC tab, is everything you've bought listed in there?

In "Set launch options" , put -forcedlc in there and try the game now.

This is the list i found in the DLC tab (the "The Old Gods" DLC is not shown here, i don't know why, nevertheless it shows, among all the others, in the pre-game window):

African Unit Pack
Crusader Kings II: African Portraits
Crusader Kings II: Byzantine Unit Pack
Crusader Kings II: Dynasty Shields II
Crusader Kings II: Legacy of Rome
Crusader Kings II: Mediterranean Portraits
Crusader Kings II: Russian Portraits
Crusader Kings II: Russian Unit Pack
Crusader Kings II: Songs of Byzantinum
Crusader Kings II: Songs of Prosperity
Crusader Kings II: Songs of the Rus
Crusader Kings II: Sunset Invasion
Crusader Kings II: The Republic
Dynasty CoA Pack 1
Mongol Graphics Pack
Ruler Designer
Songs of Albion
Songs of Faith
Songs of the Caliph
Songs of the Holy Land
Sword of Islam

More, i put the -forcedlc in the "Set launch options", in the General tab, tried with the hypen before the writing, and it did not change anything, as if i have done nothing...i also tried to type it without the hypen, no results again.

P.s: This may sound Nerdie to you, forgive me if it does...i noticed that in the first window of the game, where i can choose to play "Single player mode", my "Ingame Store" is blackened...may this have something to do with my problem? Just like my computer can't connect or something?

The In-game store is for GamersGate customers only, not Steam such as yourself.

The Old Gods is dlc024 - is that listed in your /DLC/ folder you looked in above? Are you 100% you actually bought it? It's not part of the Collection, being the most recent DLC.

That aside I'm puzzled. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong. Do you have access to another machine, either Mac or PC? If so can you sign onto Steam there and try the game please?

Ok, strange enough, i installed steam on my bro's macbook and now i can see al the dlcs little rounds where you told me, and i can play them on that macbook.
Now i wonder, should i uninstall my steam on my Imac and re-install it, in order to be able to play it? This sounds like the most silly thing i should do in order to solve my problem, but now i am ready to do whatever it is necessary...

Very well, i am ready to do it. One last question, hoping not to abuse your patience and kindness: does the back-up suggested in the last line of the link you posted also save my saved games of Crusader Kings II and all the other videogames i purchased? (actually i only want to save my CK II and Football Manager 13 games...)

Should i rather move the saved games folders (the ones which games i am interested) on my desktop, and then re-move them into the correct folders, once re-installed Steam and all the games i purchased?

No, that will only backup files in the Steamapps folder. CK2 saves its games elsewhere, under Documents. So I would certainly copy your valued save games for every game to some safe place first.

Boy I hope this works for you!
