I posted a similar question on Europa IV but I already have Crusader Kings 2. Is the vanilla game ok to play on it's own or again do I need DLC. Paradox games are really hard to understand with all the DLC and updates to the basic game. I have read that updates to the base game then need DLC to fix. Is this the case and what DLC do I need.
Note to Paradox your DLC policy is really bad and confusing to new players. I really think you need to revisit your policy going forward.
The short answer is no.
The DLCs I would argue are more important are the Legacy of Rome (which adds retinues) and Conclave packs, everything is tends to be more or less centered around a different government type or religion.
