This is a suggestion for a small sized DLC. The idea is to play as the owner of the magnificent Necklace of Death, an ancient necklace with a history fraught with blood and death. When the owner of the necklace dies, whoever killed him claims the necklace for his own, and the player continues to play as the new owner. For example, if you die in a battle against your arch enemy you would suddenly switch to play as that enemy and would have to try to survive the war you once started yourself.
With this DLC enabled you would start the game as usual as the head of a family, but you would have no idea where you could end up later in the game. You could start as a count in Sweden, but when he dies during a disastrous crusade you would continue to play as a sultan in egypt, then perhaps end up in the Byzantine Empire or Russia, just to come back to play the heir of your starting count two hundred years later. Anything could happen, and you would truly experience every corner of the impressive CKII world.
The Necklace of Death would be visible in the player portrait in all its frightening beauty. To wear the necklace for a long time would also bring along some shifts in appearence: bloodshot staring eyes, longer hair, cruel smile. The necklace would also bring a small negative modifier with everyone because of its frightening beauty. And more, it would bring a heavy negative modifier to any member of a family that previously at any point was in the possession of the necklace. They want it back. With the DLC would come some specially written events about the mysterious powers of the necklace. If the owner pleases the necklace he could gain vicious abilites in the field of murdering, or if he is unworthy he could gain madness.
Some technical details. If the owner dies on the battlefield, the leader of the flank that fought the owner would win the necklace, if he is playable. Otherwise, the highest ranking enemy would claim the necklace. If no enemies are playable, any random playable character on the battlefield would get the necklace, otherwise it would go to the heir. If the owner dies a natural death, the heir inherits the necklace. Only a playable character can win the necklace, so if the owner is assassinated by a courtier, that courtier would not win the necklace. However if it is part of a murder plot where a playable character is involved he would win the necklace, going by the highest plot power. If the owner dies without a heir (normally game over), the necklace would be inherited by the person taking ownership of the died owners main holding. If the owner dies as a prisoner, the necklace would be claimed by the one keeping him in prison.
So what do you think, paradox? A simple, cheap DLC that would enable a new and pretty fun way of playing a campaing.
