So I was thinking about something that would give mayors a tiny bit more influence on how their City develops and thought: would it be possible to have something similar to globalization occur infrequently in the game.

I was thinking all these small businesses popping up, most of them are unique aren't they?
Well what if - at a boom in a particular market we get a pop up requesting for some global chain/business to build their first building in our city.
For example: say we have a boom in office buildings and there is a high demand for them. A pop up would display on screen presenting 'such and such' incorporated would like to build an office Tower in your city, will you grant them planning permission?
You select either yes or no.
If no, the game continues along until there is another opportunity but after a reasonable cooling off period (so we don't get a million pop ups in 30 minutes)
If yes, an 'empty' lot becomes selected and you choose a place in your city to plop this lot down. Once chosen., the building will build up, probably taking longer to build than other towers and is dedicated to the global company.

Benefits of the global company boost the economy, satisfy more jobs, produce more desirable products (commercial or industrial) and people would travel further to visit them.
If the particular global company is successful another pop up would appear asking for planning permission to expand the business. You could have different building types for different zones. Ie for an office building you could have a second smaller office as the second expansion, the third being another or possibly some other type of building (Like a factory that specifically belongs to this company).

There are positive effects if you have a couple of global companies in your city, but if you allow too many, they all compete and some would fail, damaging the economy, so you'd have to balance them and not go overboard.

All the buildings placed for a particular unique company have the same colour scheme, company names etc. ex: Payne & William offices, Payne & William Shopping mall...

Examples for global company in zones:

Residential: A global housing firm wants to build a brand new, ultra modern apartment building. [Building is slightly higher than normal high density as a bonus, higher taxes need, requires more electricity/water/sewage/garbage], expand the building with an office tower, expand again with another apartment complex etc.

Commercial: A global commercial chain (ie clothing shop, fast food chain etc). wants planning permission for a flagship store. [Flagship store highly desired for shoppers, increases land wealth, increases sales, desired jobs] expand with an office building as HQ for the company [increases sales], expand again with a factory outlet [desired shopping and more produce received from industry], and expand again with a smaller store.

Industrial: A distributor company wants to place a production yard [bigger than a factory, produces more goods than other factories, more workers, higher profits] can expand with an office HQ tower [increases demand for products] expands with a smaller designated port allowing for mass importation for more goods and products, [generating more profit]

Forest: A christmas tree company needs to build a christmas tree farm, expands with office building, expands with factory outlet.

Farm, Ore and Oil: Similar to forestry ^

I know that's a big read but tell me if you think you'd enjoy it... I don't know if devs are on the lookout for ideas on DLC/expansions given they have their own big list I thought it would be nice to keep ideas flowing around just in case it inspires someone on the team.

I think this is a good idea. It's nice because it adds to your cit and makes it more challenging because you have to balance and support it.
