Don't post here much but something did occur to me recently.

The first couple of updates to the game where more or less fixing things, pushing the game more towards what P-Dox want it to be.

Plantoids where cosmetic and just kind of nice to have around.

But then Leviathans came out and updates around/fixes were heavily associated with the exploration aspect of the game and realizing how big of a universe you're in and all that fun stuff.

Now we have an unnamed DLC coming out along with sweeping changes to internal politics at large, my question to you all is what do you think the focus will be next? Warfare?

Warfare is probably the last thing they need to work on now. It's far from perfect, but it is close to the only thing we have to do in Stellaris at this point. I'd much rather something like trade or a more in-depth culture mechanics.

Most likely still focus on late game dealings. Things like civilian trade, diplomacy, etc. The game has a pretty strong beginning, but the late game still suffers. The next DLC seems to be a huge improvement to it, but I don't think it will fix everything. Diplomacy still needs major work.

Whatever they do I'd like them to liven up the mid-game. Lots to do early on, but once all the space has been claimed there is little room for expansion without war the game gets quite tedious. I find myself almost begging for an end-game crisis. Even worse if I'm playing a peaceful civilization, then I don't even get to break the boredom by starting wars.

I think I'd most prefer to see more to do with Diplomacy and Politics. Add trade onto that for good measure.

Approximate plans from Journey ahead
  • Ship appearance that differs for each empire, so no two empires' ships look exactly the same.
  • More story events and reactive narratives that give a sense of an unfolding story as you play.
  • More potential for empire customization, ability to build competitive 'tall' empires.
  • Deeper Federations that start out as loose alliances and can eventually be turned into single states through diplomatic manuevering.
  • Ability to set rights and obligations for particular species in your empire.
  • Global food that can be shared between planets.
  • Superweapons and planet killers.
  • Ability to construct space habitats and ringworlds.
  • More interesting mechanics for pre-FTL civilizations.
  • Factions that are proper interest groups with specific likes and dislikes and the potential to be a benefit to an empire instead of just being rebels.
  • A 'galactic community' with interstellar politics and a 'space UN'.
  • Buildable Dreadnoughts and Titans.
Partially done as you see. Remaining points are mostly about ships and diplomacy, and since the latter gets more critique at the moment, I'd think this would be a priority.
