I'm saying that distributing DLC's content in a mod is just a pretty/nerdy way to call piracy. So far DLCs are modular and aren't required to play any of the mods, so I would worry about it only if it were a real issue, which is not atm.

Actually that's what I'm trying to do right now.

What do you mean?

I am trying to figure out how to make characters in my mod use hairstyles from the Mongol dlc by using the dependencies function in the *.mod file. Nothing illegal, I assure you. I've already figured out how to dress my Christian Iberians in 'Muslim' clothing, just for fun. Castilians do look rather nice in turbans.

But to be serious, I am tinkering with hairstyles and one of the long male Muslim hairstyles would look nice on some of my characters, so I would like learn how to call on the Mongol gfx files in the dlc. I just like knowing what I can do as far as modding goes and it will be helpful for future dlcs as well.

That's what I was thinking about, I tried to find the files but they are somewhat coded harder than normal things. Of course what I said about piracy wasn't intended for you, it was about distributing the sample file without any modification, once you modify it and make it your own thing I don't see why you couldn't use it :)

I've been looking for this thread to tell the person who made it that all the DLC are actually in your CK2 game right now. You just have to pay the money for it to be unlocked.

So could someone tell me how exactly DLC files are stored and loaded in, from a modder's perspective? I have no idea if this stuff is publicly documented anywhere, I always have trouble finding resources for modding...

DLC are stored in DLC folder and contain the control file and the .zip file. Zip file has similar file structure as normal game.

So, basically, it works like a bit special mod.

Requiring a DLC / expansion for your mod to work is not unfair. Just look at TES series and Fallout: Vegas. They have modders that create 'modular' mod that player can download depends on what DLC they bought.

When such mod can be created only when using DLC components, then yes, it's fair enough.
