DLC and Game Selection Questions

I just purchased the CKII Collection from GamersGate but have some questions about the DLCs.

I noticed when I first opened the game that there was nothing listed in the white DLC box. So I figured out that they had to be manually reinstalled from the Ingame Store, which I did for all of them except the music DLC's which don't interest me.

I updated the patch to 1.092 and have the correct checksum. The white DLC box when launching now shows the DLCs.

When I start a game as a single player I now have four little icons that say that the following DLCs are running---Sword of Islam, Legacy of Rome, The Republic, and Sunset Invasion.

Are they ALL running now as soon as I start a game? Evidently, Sword of Islam is running as I can select to play an Islamic character, but the game is still starting in 1066 as any normal pre DLC game would

If I select any of the above DLCs in the white select box before starting a game nothing appears to happen. Still have the same icons indicating all four are running and the starting screen doesn't appear to change. Should something happen that is different if I select a DLC from the white box at launch or are all of these DLC's simply content that don't give a new game start scenario?

Most importantly, how do I get rid of Sunset Invasion? I have no desire to start a game and suddenly have some Aztec/Maya/Whatever showing up in Europe. Or will that never happen unless I start the game having selected Sunset Invasion from the white box at start up, and as I stated above, how would I even know if that is the scenario I am playing as all four icons still show as "running".

Those icons only represent the (currently 4) major, non-cosmetic DLCs. Music and graphics DLCs don't show there. If they are checked in the Launcher, then they will start, unless there's some problem like they aven't downloaded properly or something.

If you don't load SoI you can't play as a Muslim. If you don't load Republics you can't play as a republic. If you don't load Rome you can't play as Byzantium. None of them change the start date yet, the next one Old Gods will.

If you uncheck the SI DLC box in the launcher, you will only get 3 icons and the Aztecs will never appear.

Thank you for the thorough answers. They appear to solve all my concerns. I hadn't realized that you could select/deselect one of the DLC's by clicking on the arrow in the launcher--I was only clicking on the text beside the arrow which had no effect.
