DivWind single player game crash on date advance

Been playing EU3 HTTT single player for years (in XP and W7) and have had this problem repeatedly when reaching early to mid 1700's (having started in 1399.) Now using DW single player, game crashes to W7 and I go back to an earlier recent save. When I advance the date it crashes as soon as the date changes.
W7 shows this error dialog:

I searched here and googled but did not find a discussion of this problem. (If I missed it, please let me know.)

Is this a Steam version of the game?
