In my recent Soviet game I think I accidentally did something really stupid but I want to see what the advice is.
About 6 months into the German invasion I decided to switch all my divisions from 20 width to 40 width and didn't realize that I basically immediately doubled my need for equipment instantly instead of deploying divisions as they were trained, it took me about a year to figure this out and in the meantime I had force deployed about 30 infantry divisions to stop the panzer tide which I had done and we basically entered into WW1 along one of the rivers in Western Russia. It took me about two more years of ingame time to recover my equipment (didn't help that I started early a couple of times) sufficiently to go on the offensive and finally blow apart the German lines.
Was this actually a really stupid move to switch my width like that mid war? Is that ever an effective move or would I have been better off pumping out new 20 width divisions?
