District of Columbia
Recreation using typoma's Washington DC v.2 map. Not a 1-for-1 recreation. Started with a baseline grid that adheres more to min-maxing game dynamics. But I'm going to try and put in the major boulevards, highways, and parks. Capture the "spirit" of the district.
Districts of the District.
View of the Mall from the Capitol.
Pennsylvania Avenue was the first off-grid boulevard I placed. I will put the Third Street Tunnel underground once the tunnel patch arrives.
K Street, looking west towards the Potomac/Rock Creek junction.
Union Station using Freme's Public transport place.
Bird's eye view of Capitol Hill.
The map isn't scaled to capture the full Beltway, but I'll put in a Beltway at my borders since it does help for game play purposes. You will also note some creative liberties. e.g., farming industry at Eastern Market to "simulate" a farmer's market.
Also, since railroads take so much traffic off the roads in this game, I put a cargo station north of Union Station where it's really just tons of train tracks intersecting near New York Avenue NW. And I put a cargo station near the 395/695 junction (I noticed tracks diverge from the main line there in real life). Also debating how "industrial" I need to make the Navy Yard feel. And yes, I know 695 needs to bend more towards Anacostia River.
And obviously, I have to get rid of the incinerator at the Tidal Basin, but they unfortunately don't have an infinite service radius. Have to figure that out when I start working on the Lincoln Memorial.
I also need to figure out whether to have the Third Street Tunnel spit out onto New York Avenue NW like in real life or whether to use a more elegant dispersal layout.
Nieuw Amsterdam
I also started on a city I'm calling Nieuw Amsterdam, which is not a recreation of New York per se. Using Galahad's New York City Rewind map, I'm going to try to adhere more to the pre-Colonial topography of the island. instead of creating the solid grid north of Houston Street. I will also try to retain more of the organic layout in the lower part of Manhattan.
Districts. Hat tip to Native American and Dutch heritage.
Nieuw Amsterdam extending to the Tribeca Forest
