I was playing as brunswick, formed hannover, and now sweden, france, brandenburg and England think I am super far away from them. Is there an easy fix for this or do I have to wait for PDX to fix this themselves?

You could download the beta patch in which this is fixed (do this at your own risk since it is a beta patch)
i have the same problem as Castille forming Spain and i have downloaded the hotfix beta 1.8.1 before to start this game, so it's still broken
i just discover that Steam has turn off my beta hotfix, i re-activated and now all works :unsure:
