Actually...it might be kind of interesting to sit down and compare the source code for EU2 and CK to see if there was anything that was recycled beyond the odd really basic C++ GUI libraries.

On a somewhat related subject:

Would Paradox consider scrapping the 'text file' format for its save games? My 1160 save game, at 25 megs, is 11,000+ pages of text. Surely this is not the most efficient means of doing things. :)

It seems like there are huge performance gains to be had by moving away from this format.

Sorry...but i see no connection between save game filesize and game performance.
The game has to handle the same ammount of data if the file size is 25mb or mabe only 5.
The only thing that would happen -> slower loading/saving time.
But i think it loads/saves fast enough! ;)

There are three things we know about Paradox products:

1. The game design is very ambitious.
2. The support team is very dedicated.
3. Because the design is so ambitious, the support team has to be very dedicated.

I don't think these things will ever change. I'm perfectly happy to spend my money supporting Paradox's creativity, and taking the risk that the game will not be bugfree at release. Some people are not.

By saving bytes instead of text the save game size could be dramatically cut down. That doesn't effect in-game performance but makes save/reload faster. Drawback is that it prevents easy editing of the save file.

But easy editing of the save file is one of the good things about Paradox games :) I hope they can improve the perfomance of CK without abandoning the text file.
