Dissapearing cores on nation release?

I noticed that when a country has to release a nation as a result of losing a war , the cores of the previous owner dissapear.
I just released a minor in order to make peace and I realized I have lost my cores in their nation. Then I can't use the reconquest cb 5 years later
and forced to eat the AE and overextension to reannex them.
Is that a change of 1.4 or a bug?? Or maybe just a corrupted game? Any idea?
