Andalusian York?

American and Canadian alliance against the Britannians?

Italian colonial independence?

What a decade!
Unfortunately both wars of independence failed.

Plantagenets making an appearance in 17th century Argentina? Well I never…

Maybe it was people claiming to be of Plantagenet as a branch of them?
Technically they never existed in this universe until now. So they would not be larpers but a legit new House.

The irl Plantagenets took the name from the broom plant (planta genista), which apparently does have variants present in South America so coincidence is not beyond the realm of possibility even beyond the EU dynasty name generator.

East Francia :(

But the fact that we have African, Middle Eastern, and Asian colonizers is so awesome.

Also, Irish-culture Argentina/Chile achieving independence from England under a Spanish name? Sounds about right.

IRL there’s a 150-year-old Welsh-speaking community in Patagonia, so our world has its very own wacky response. :D

1670s

"In 1670s, the great conqueror Mundir X Galindid of Maghreb Sultanate waged more wars against native nations of South York. The newly conquered territories were turned into a colonial nation named Maghrebi York on 2 May 1674 with the silver-tongued Abdul-Aziz Barek as its first viceroy."

"The independence war waged by the Thirteen Colonies and Canada during the 1650s had been a disaster. Colonists were now expected to be extremely loyal to the French Empire of Britannia. On 2 October 1677, a new colonial nation was established and it was named Orsonia by the settlers as a sign of their loyalty to the emperor. The colony's first governor Isabeau Albemarle was a friend of the ruling family and well-connected in royal loyalist circles."

"In 1650s, Chinese colonial armies from Huangdi, Ji Lian and Ming Mexico had fought against Nuova Venetia, which was rebelling against Italy. The Chinese declaration of war had direct consequences that eventually led to the failure of Nuova Venetia's independence war. The fierce resistance shown by the Orthodox French people of Nuova Venetia against both the Chinese and the Italians inspired many Chinese colonial troops. The ideas of independence from the Ming Empire became increasingly popular during the 1660s. On 7 February 1670, 18 years old Gongming Xia declared himself the King of Ji Lian, which would eventually come to be known as Cascadia internationally, and declared a war of independence against the Ming dynasty."

eu4_80.png

"After receiving the news of Ji Lian's declaration of independence, both Huangdi and Ming Mexico declared their own independence the very next day. While Ji Lian might have initiated the independence movement for the Chinese colonies, most of the fighting was done by Huangdi. Or Huangdi ships to be specific. The Ming army, no matter how large or powerful it was, never set foot on North York as the Chinese armada was either destroyed or captured by the Huangdi-dominated fleet of former Chinese colonies. Unlike Ji Lian's 18 years old monarch, Huangdi was led by the 33 years old admiral Youhua Fei who was elected and proved himself by personally leading the allied fleets in multiple naval battles against Ming ships. Huangdi would later be known internationally as California."

eu4_86.png

"Ming Mexico was the weakest and the smallest among the rebellious Chinese colonies. However, the nation is still fascinating and worthy of mention since it was a Chinese Hindu republic. Unlike Ji Lian which was ruled by an 18 years old monarch or Huangdi's system that favored military officers and nobility, Mexico was a true republic where all of its people were equally represented and respected scholars like Zugan Guo were elected into power."

eu4_89.png

"The Ming dynasty, having lost most of their navy and soldiers who never set foot on North York, was eventually forced to grant independence to Ji Lian, Huangdi and Ming Mexico. Many Asian states start seeing this as a weakness and states like Tondo stopped paying their tributes to the Chinese emperor. Expansionist Shogun Yoshimochi Ashikaga saw this as a golden opportunity and declared war on Tondo, whose only ally was Sunda."

"By 1680s, the Eastern Roman Empire was an empire in name only and its troubles were same as ever."

eu4_98.png

"During this decade, French Emperor Orson X Cetchathach-Linlithgow of Britannia decided to declare war on Brabant. He was a military genius whose had defeated the independence movement of Thirteen Colonies and Canada and he had a colonial nation named after him."

eu4_102.png

"The Chinese might have lost their colonies but they still held their presence in the New World through their vassals Matlatzinca and Tlapanec. Emperor Houjue Zhu continued Ming wars in the region through his vassal states."

eu4_106.png

"During this decade, Mong Mao was the unfortunate victim of aggression from the Tamil Sultanate of Bengal."

eu4_110.png

"The Andalusian colony of Khasiba was attacked by Haiti and Sweden in 1678. Viceroy Sa'd ibn al-Azafi was initially overjoyed to hear news of an Andalusian army arriving in the region. Unfortunately, it turned out that this army was there to fight against the Muisca people and not Haiti or Sweden."

I really wish the colonial nations would keep the name we give even after they became independent.

Is it possible to edit the save file to give them new names (Ji Lian, Huangdi, etc.)?

Let's handwave that stuff for now. They have their cultural names among the locals but internationally are called whatever default Paradox name is there.

Besides, this is an old save that does not exist anymore. I rushed through this after hearing 1.31 was dropping out soon.

In fairness to the ERE, surviving until 1680 is a massive advance on irl. Even if they have fallen an exceptionally long way.

Disappointed to see that Burgundy ended up tag shifting into France. (I presume that’s what happened, anyway.) Would have been nice to have kept that bit of diversity.

The Chinese colonial nations are all super interesting. The North *American continent as home to a whole host of different cultured colonisers and different government types has been one of the most fascinating elements of this part of the playthrough.

Aye, Burgundy formed France.

Technically many powerful Orthodox Greek nations that spawned out of ERE exist and Byzantium is still not gone yet, I assume a lot of them lore-wise argue who the real Rome is.

"You heathens! Don't you know Belgrade is the true Rome?!"

"Nonsense! It's clearly Sana'a!"

"On 19 November 1691, a Catholic Catalan man named Sinibaldo III de Castro declared himself the King of Brazil and declared independence from Italy. Just like the case for La Plata, many states unofficially supported the Brazilian independence with food, guns and other supplies coming from Haiti and Maghrebi colonies while only the English Kingdom of La Plata itself provided military support. The Italian military, having been defeated recently by France in a war, was unable to fight the Brazilians and their allies from La Plata."

"The Nogais were unique among the Turko-Mongolian peoples of the era for being the only group to have converted to Orthodox Christianity. They were allied with the two strongest Turkic powers: the Tengri-worshiping Cumans of Gobi-Altai and the Sunni Muslim Uzbek Timurids. Under the inspiring leadership of Duke Ishterek Delger Cheren and backed by their powerful allies, the Nogais went to war against Transoxiana."

"The Delhi Sultanate was unable to help its allies in Transoxiana for they were busy with their own war against the Tibetan Hindu Kingdom of Pagan."

"This decade saw the Tamil Empire of Orissa launch yet another war of conquest against Tamilakam."

"The other noteworthy event of 1680s was the Japanese declaration of war upon Ainu. Unfortunately for the expansionist Shogun Yoshimochi Ashikaga, the Ming Empire decided to intervene in the conflict on the side of Ainu."
