Please add a way for an attacker to dismantle the Empire once it becomes hereditary (maybe with the added requirement that Erbkaisertum has not been passed).

In my current game the HRE became even more of an undead corpse of a state then IOTL after the League Wars. I preferred to surrender my elector status instead of giving away land, and thus the HRE became Catholic. Too bad that there is no egligble Elector left, so Austria sits there with -0.65 IA per month with princes that don't like her. Please, please allow me to put the Empire out of it's misery (the fact that I don't want to suffert the extra AE does play absolutely no role in my considerations)

Punch Austria in the face. Make them release 100% warscore worth of absorbed countries. Rinse and repeat until they are small enough to force-vassalize. Force-vassalize them. (A subject can't be emperor.)

Can you not already press the Dismantle HRE button (on the HRE interface) by occupying Austria's capital, since there are no electors?

No, if there are no electors but an Emperor the HRE becomes hereditary, and once it is hereditary it can no longer be disbanded by occupying the capital. http://i.imgur.com/xkYR04y.png

Ha ha OK, then I wholly support your proposal. In hindsight breaking the HRE would be too easy if only one capital needed to be occupied.

Or maybe the HRE should just dissolve after x time without any electors and before Erbkaisertum. Though perhaps the AI cannot handle this well, and instead electors should get an event to choose conversion or lose elector status?.

I can't guarantee that it still works, but two patches ago I had Bohemia become hereditary and when I force vassalized them, the Empire dismantled.

If they become hereditary the throne is permanently barred from anyone but the current emperor, meaning that when they become an invalid emperor the HRE instantly dismantles.
