In this new HoI transport ships doesn't exist so i assume transporting ground troops are done by convoys or something like that. So my problem is when transporting those units if you encounter a battle ship that finds you, then you engage in battle? And if that happens how does that works? You get sunk imediatelly? It starts a battle? And how can a naval unit fight a land unit?

No idea. I just hope there's an easy way to attach escorts to land units as they move oversea.
Simple Destroyers definitely won't do.

Yes thats my main problem. If you can escort those units with whatever you have on your navy i think its kinda fine. But even if that's possible i really don't know how those ground units are gonna respond to an attack even if it is against transports and battle ships.

This is something very interesting that would be pretty important, for example for those who want to play as Japan.
If i move an invasion fleet in the Pacific for example, i would like to have atleast Cruisers and Carriers escorting.

I think its an important issue for almost every major country except maybe URSS. Even Germany can invade the UK... Italy the North Africa and Malta. Eventually the USA wants to invade Africa, Europe and the Pacific Islands. So how does this really works? I think it would be an interesting topic for a WWW, or just maybe some pictures and answers from the devs.

So without escorts, they would fight exactly like any other convoy right? Hit by a torpedo and some fraction of your troops are going to the bottom, like any other cargo.

As for the escorting question, as far as I can tell, you put fleets on convoy escort duty in the naval regions that you will be moving troops. According to the naval DD, they will "be very likely to be protecting convoys in the region when attacked." There doesn't seem to be a way to say 'protect this particular convoy' and not the others. So just make sure you have way more escorts than the enemy has raiders in that zone, or be prepared to roll the dice. Other ships will try to help if the convoy is attacked but may not get there in time.

Edit: From the sub DD: "Troops being transported or during a planned invasion may be attacked leading to them being wiped out or severely weakened. You always want to be very careful and guard your transport routes before sending troops somewhere in war time." Note that you guard transport routes (ie seazones) not convoys.

If convoys are attacked they will create an naval battle, just with any other naval attack. Your military vessels in the area will then try to rush to aid and protect those convoys. Some of your unprotected convoys will most likely sink, while some might survive. It is always very crucial to be carefull where and when you transport troops, since that is always an very fragile operation. Always send escorts with them to aid in an attack. If you dont have naval supremecy an naval invasion is most likely suicidal and most, if not all of your troops will be sunk.

You can actually see it happening during the world war wednesday episode 4, where jakob is convoy raiding in the atlantic and attacks some undefended convoys with his submarines. You can watch the naval battle happening. You can even set your raiders to disengage once military vessels join in, to avoid direct conflicts with the enemy navy.
