Nefaro just ninjaed me (pun intended) of the suggestion about rivalries.

Some random ideas about narrative and immersive events, from my limited knowledge of Japanese folklore, could be rooted from the perception of supernatural:

-Someone is suspected of being a Fox in disguise (or similar shady rumors about his/her nocturnal activities)
-New Holy Shrines dedicated to local Kami could be built, or not, but there is the request
-Christian guys get a fame of being devilish creature but get followers (Tokisada Shirou Amakusa?)
-Peasants rumors of Oni showing up on rice fields (or on the sea) at night
(more could come from a learned historian of Japanese folklore)

Other events could be interesting and be chained into 'trees', the direction to be chosen and however never having a net gain or loss.

'Forbidden Love' tree:
-Can strike only berothed characters being 13+ years old.
-The character can choose to shun his feelings or defy his family
a) Try to sever the connection with the forbidden love (add trait 'Driven by duties': -1 Intrigue, +0.05 Honor/month,)
b) Keep seeing her secretly (add trait 'Driven by feelings': +1 Intrigue, -0.05 Honor/month)

After reaching adulthood and marrying, the former love is seen once again, and the following event happens:
If you chose a):
a1) "I have already chosen to follow my duties as a faithful husband" (+5 Honor, triggering future events)
a2) "I knew I could not stay away from you..." (lose trait 'Driven by duties', gain trait 'Unfaithful': -0.02 Honor/month, -25 relations with your wives, triggering future events)
If you chose b):
b1) "I love you like the first day we met, no one will stand between us..." (gain trait 'Cheater': -1 Diplomacy, -10 relations with your wives, triggering future events)
b2) "To tell the truth, I have learned love is not forever..." (lose trait 'Driven by feelings', gain trait 'Shunned Love': +10 relations with your wives, triggering future events)

After this, the character has 1 of the following traits: Driven by duties, Unfaithful, Cheater, or Shunned Love.

The following events can happen later:

Driven by duties:
-low chance that your former love will return to haunt you with doubts (add trait 'Lovesick': -1 Military)
-medium chance your Clan will know you for the dedicated man you are (+3 honor)

Unfaithful:
-high chance that one of your spouses will try to expose you to the clan (chances of success high if your Intrigue is low and vice versa, if successful gain the trait 'Exposed' : -1 Diplomacy, if not successful gain the trait 'Hidden': +1 Diplomacy)
-low chance that one of your spouses will flee not to be seen again (medium chance if the character is 'Hidden', spouse dies)

Cheater:
-low chance that one of your spouses will try to expose you to the clan (chances of success high if your Intrigue is low and vice versa, if successful gain the trait 'Exposed' : -1 Diplomacy, if not successful gain the trait 'Hidden': +1 Diplomacy)
-medium chance you find that your arrangements give you a happier life and someone out your family supporting you (+5 Gold)

Shunned Love:
-medium chance that your former love will want to avenge her broken heart (chances of success high if your Diplomacy is low and vice versa, if successful lose 5 Honor, if not successful gain 5 Honor, event can repeat itself)
-medium chance you'll get the chance to get rid of your former love interest -bribes, forced retirement, homicide-: You can spend 5 Gold to stop the Shunned Love events, or just do nothing.

That means you can roleplay, but if you want to cheat others you better have a high Intrigue or it is not good for you, while being honest can bring Honor if you have good Diplomacy.

I have to go, will post more in the future.
Are you sure unfaithfulness was seen badly at the time ? I don't understand why cheating your wife would reduce your diplomacy, males were probably considered to have "needs" to fulfil.

Just wrote something that can mean you won't get a net gain :) (scripting a 'tree' where you get a plus or a big plus would be wrong imho).

It could have been seen as virile, the problem could not have been the peers' or the wives' opinions, but those I thought to were the wife's father or wife's clan, they could feel dishonored.

I still have to see, even today, a father NOT getting angry if his daughter is married to someone unfaithful :).

The thing is, though, they weren't. At all. No one expected monogamy from the male side of the marriage, marriages were political, arranged, and not out of love, a samurai not having concubines was seen as weird, and the wife's only matter of opinion is whether this girl or that girl would make a better concubine suited to bear children.

True.
On the other hand, there were 'love stories' of rulers having (unusually) only one wife. Some events about these rulers and their wives would be nice, I think.

I'm not as learned as I hoped, I was told the role of women was just to bear children, but I did not think to this extent (maybe I'm a little too romantic ;)).

There was nothing romantic about marriage in Japan.

I do not know until which year you are speaking of, but there is Japanese literature where romantic love is mentioned.

Nowadays, I'm told love marriage is not as uncommon as in the past, the source being Japanese men and women.

Which are your sources? I think you might be a little extreme...

(btw, we are going OT, better if we do not dilute too uch the thread)

Yeah, just like there was "romantic" chansons de geste in French Medieval Literature for all those court noblewomen in need of a passion thrill, like Tristan and Iseult, doesn't change the cold hard truth was that marriage in French landed nobility as economical and political, that love had nothing to do with it, and eloping was a VERY bad thing to do. Love, if it came, came afterwards. Same with Japan : daughters and wives were pawns, and were expected to obey their father, their elder brother, and their husband, in deference and devotion just like a vassal would obey his Lord.

It's you who makes the extraordinary claim that Japanese samurai were marrying out of love and passion, in contradiction with every historical evidence. So it's yours to present your sources, and not romance literature.

Bolded for our own convenience.

I do not remember to have ever affirmed such 'extraordinary claims', extraordinary or otherwise.

I do not like where this discussion is going, too. What's with your anger? Is it justified?

I already told that my sources are present day living people native of Japan (I hope I do not have to write names and addresses), as well as I told that it's all I got.

I'm not claiming medieval Japan, or France, or the world in general were worlds where marriages of love were the rule; feel free to quote where I wrote anything different (my posts are also unedited, so there is no way for me to 'cheat').

I insist that you cannot give me the 'Burden of the Proof', as long as I said: 'I could be a little too romantic', and you claim that 'marriage in French landed nobility as economical and political, that love had nothing to do with it. Same with Japan'.

No, you are the one who has to present sources that show that medieval world was so devoid of love that marriage was nothing more than a business, literature was made for court noblewomen (turning all literature in what we call today 'science-fiction', as 'not possible to exist in reality') and the chance of a marriage of love were 0, instead of extremely low.

Then, you'll perhaps explain me what of all this has to do with the request from the OP of suggestions to create events.

Actually, no one has to show any claims to anyone. And TBH, I will have to agree with the majority here because that's the way things were done. The texts never go out and say that, but if they ever talk about any female in a marriage specifically its either because the female is infamous (Ashikaga Yoshimasa's concubine Himiko) or they are mentioned as part of a poltical marriage or arragement. In the latter, there is usually no name that goes with it.

I'd like to see some multiple choice character-related events, as in CK, added to the game. From what I've seen of the current game, it can be done. Doesn't necessarily have to happen as often as the ones in CK, but it does seem to be a big part of what's missing.

Dang, I thought this was the fun event suggestion thread and not the thread where you have to be an expert on the marriage habits of Japanese nobility or you'll get told off. Let's all relax.

My suggestion? "The wife of a fisherman in one of your kori has been caught having an affair with a local cephalopod." Two choices:

A. Execute fisherman's wife, imprison cephalopod. +5 honor, gain "Uptight" trait
B. "Whatever blows your skirt up!" -5 honor, gain "Pervert" trait.

Thanks for your comments!

About Japanese sources, I must say, I can't simply believe Japanese except skilled historians, since modern Japanese are under the influence of historical TV series, movies, romans and games, in which there are so many interpretations to suit today's taste. (TV series by NHK are good examples for that.)
However, by now I won't care about historical accuracy. We need more ideas!

Bump and add a new idea.
- more interactions between the imperial court in Kyoto, f.e. Some donations to aristocrats for adding honor or life style traits.
