After making the event list, I have noticed the following things.

Sengoku has ca.500 events. The main part of them is events adding or removing character traits, though I must say they are rahter a work of copy and paste in scripting (it is quite reasonable for the limited time period of development). There are also characteristic events for Sengoku, f.e. Ninja, Religious Factions, Plots or westernization. Surprisingly to me, there is no narrative events, even though the game keeps ids for them.


So we have a lot of space to add events! In this thread I would like to discuss about events, specially for event mods in future. We could talk about technical issues later in the mod sub forum, so simply throwing ideas or brainstorming are wellcome, too. The Sengoku-Jidai had tons of documents and narrative stories, so introductions of episodes for creating events in game would be also nice.

What I'd like to see, and I think would both make sense and the game more fun are a series of friend/rival events a la CK. This could make plotting a more textured device. One way to modulate them would be through hostages fulfilling the role the fosterlings did in CK.

Nefaro just ninjaed me (pun intended) of the suggestion about rivalries.

Some random ideas about narrative and immersive events, from my limited knowledge of Japanese folklore, could be rooted from the perception of supernatural:

-Someone is suspected of being a Fox in disguise (or similar shady rumors about his/her nocturnal activities)
-New Holy Shrines dedicated to local Kami could be built, or not, but there is the request
-Christian guys get a fame of being devilish creature but get followers (Tokisada Shirou Amakusa?)
-Peasants rumors of Oni showing up on rice fields (or on the sea) at night
(more could come from a learned historian of Japanese folklore)

Other events could be interesting and be chained into 'trees', the direction to be chosen and however never having a net gain or loss.

'Forbidden Love' tree:
-Can strike only berothed characters being 13+ years old.
-The character can choose to shun his feelings or defy his family
a) Try to sever the connection with the forbidden love (add trait 'Driven by duties': -1 Intrigue, +0.05 Honor/month,)
b) Keep seeing her secretly (add trait 'Driven by feelings': +1 Intrigue, -0.05 Honor/month)

After reaching adulthood and marrying, the former love is seen once again, and the following event happens:
If you chose a):
a1) "I have already chosen to follow my duties as a faithful husband" (+5 Honor, triggering future events)
a2) "I knew I could not stay away from you..." (lose trait 'Driven by duties', gain trait 'Unfaithful': -0.02 Honor/month, -25 relations with your wives, triggering future events)
If you chose b):
b1) "I love you like the first day we met, no one will stand between us..." (gain trait 'Cheater': -1 Diplomacy, -10 relations with your wives, triggering future events)
b2) "To tell the truth, I have learned love is not forever..." (lose trait 'Driven by feelings', gain trait 'Shunned Love': +10 relations with your wives, triggering future events)

After this, the character has 1 of the following traits: Driven by duties, Unfaithful, Cheater, or Shunned Love.

The following events can happen later:

Driven by duties:
-low chance that your former love will return to haunt you with doubts (add trait 'Lovesick': -1 Military)
-medium chance your Clan will know you for the dedicated man you are (+3 honor)

Unfaithful:
-high chance that one of your spouses will try to expose you to the clan (chances of success high if your Intrigue is low and vice versa, if successful gain the trait 'Exposed' : -1 Diplomacy, if not successful gain the trait 'Hidden': +1 Diplomacy)
-low chance that one of your spouses will flee not to be seen again (medium chance if the character is 'Hidden', spouse dies)

Cheater:
-low chance that one of your spouses will try to expose you to the clan (chances of success high if your Intrigue is low and vice versa, if successful gain the trait 'Exposed' : -1 Diplomacy, if not successful gain the trait 'Hidden': +1 Diplomacy)
-medium chance you find that your arrangements give you a happier life and someone out your family supporting you (+5 Gold)

Shunned Love:
-medium chance that your former love will want to avenge her broken heart (chances of success high if your Diplomacy is low and vice versa, if successful lose 5 Honor, if not successful gain 5 Honor, event can repeat itself)
-medium chance you'll get the chance to get rid of your former love interest -bribes, forced retirement, homicide-: You can spend 5 Gold to stop the Shunned Love events, or just do nothing.

That means you can roleplay, but if you want to cheat others you better have a high Intrigue or it is not good for you, while being honest can bring Honor if you have good Diplomacy.

-Vassals don't acquire provinces for themselves but instead for clan leader and then have an event popup where they have the option to ask clan leader to give that province to them. If they don't ask they get like minor honor bonus if they do and clan leader refuses they get a relationship hit and if clan leader agrees they get the province.
-Child Education events like in CK
-Children events, your children vs children of your vassals, your heir vs his brothers/sisters.
-Some omen events. Like some omen happens and you choose if its a shinto/buddhist/christian sign and get bonuses according to your choice.
-Foreign mercs event like wako pirates, portuguese/dutch mercs. Similar mechanic to ronin. They get their general and troops.
-insult events vassal vs vassal

I would love to see random events changing opinion of your neighbours to you, just for spice. Also, more events related to the ruler's family would be nice. The ruler's only son could get sick and he would worry about the future of his lineage, mothers with high intrigue stat could try to influence the education and actions of their children, wives could become envious of their husband and could hire assassins or try to poison other wives etc.

Also if someone can mod the game to increase the time frame ( I know this is the little thing Paradox keep to themselves ) That way the mod community can make up for the lazyness of the developers.

Im not impressed with the attitude expressed by some Paradox Reps along the lines of

" shorter game, shorter development . less money you get what you paid for ! "

£25 is not what I deem a small cost for a computer game, get real !!!!

Folklores sounds nice. Some of them might be ahistorical, but in general they could do well with the atmosphare of Sengoku.
Family events and interactions between vassals would be also fun.

I am missing personal traits about religions too. These traits would give more depth in the game.

Only you have to do is changing end date of the define.txt in the common file.
