I've noticed a little trick that you can do with the Exchange Discoveries action.

If you have a diplomat, using that costs none, so you can just click away to your heart's content until the target nation accepts, without having to wait a month or two to try again.

(This was in my Steppes AAR, but I thought I'd bring it out to where it was more visible:))

Nope Habobo...the trick of discoverie tip is that you don't need to wait 1-2month until you can send another diplomat.

Matija, I do not understand your reply.

Do you mean that the discovery tip is not useful when diplomatic status is at -200? I.e. they will never agree to exchange maps, no mather how much I beg.

I fully understand that I do not need to wait a month in game time to send a new diplomat. My question was rather: Do I need to keep clicking for a month in real time before they accept;)

I dunno, it kinda varies based on whether they're allied, RM, relations, etc. The lowest relation I've tried was like -60 and it took a long time (although I always do it on pause, so I don't miss anything).

I think that it is not possible to exchange maps with someone you have -200 relations...I have been playing EU and EU2 for about a year or so and I never managed to make an map excange with the nation I have -200 relations:( ....actually I was often rejected by a nation wich had +(70-150) relations with me.

1. Ive tried to trade with Mughal Empire (-200), me giving 1500 and them giving ~1, didnt work
2. Ive had +200 relations with Spain and had more unknown territories but it didnt work...The AI doesnt want you to know about the places found in the first part of the .eug file.

I noticed that, apart from your relation with the other country, exchanging maps only works when you give about as much (or more than) you take.

And some countries (like Spain) almost never reveal their maps. Must be linked with the colonistic tendencies of the country, plus a random factor based on your relations and the difference between what you know and what they know.

Anybody knows the exact formula?

Anyway, if you are playing for victory points, exchanging maps does not give you any discovery points.

Oh, and another diplo function that does not use up a diplomat is the "offer a loan" function.

Well it's not that hard. I've exchanged maps with Spain as Sibir, a country they have a CB against. I dunno.

The most interest thing i have discovered re maps and known provinces is that if u r allied with certain countries and go to war with someone then ur allies must known where that country is to join in the war or they wil dishonor ur alliance. So if u need them bad exachange with them 1st and then ask them to join in.

If this is true, then it opens a nasty way to get a CB on someone ... For example, I want a CB on Pol-Lith. I ally with P-L, and DOW someone they don't know (such as Iroqious). When P-L dishonour the alliance, I have my CB...

Does this work - has anyone tested it?

I was using it last night, as Russia ... it works quite nicely ...

Now I need to work out how to get an alliance with those -200 reln neighbours. Neighbours I've just spent 10 years abusing, threatening, etc ...

I tried it and it works. But it is not really fair for those countries who worked hard to discover new land and new seas. :D
