I am playing as Denmark and somehow I managed to get into a PU with France (I am senior, France is junior). I would very much like to leave this union since France is a war magnet and completly useless to my goals at this point, yet apparantly that is completely impossible from what I can see.

I think this is pretty silly, a junior partner of a PU at this point have MORE options to leave than the senior who should theoretically be in control...

Anyone have any ideas how I can get out of this on the short term without sitting around waiting for my king to die while trading insults with france in the hope they get their own king again?

If this as I suspect isn't possible, then may I please suggest that it be added to the game at some point or to its sequels, I don't care if it costs a load of prestige or something (would be fair, it's not very prestigious to essentially abdicate one of your monarchs thrones), I would just very much like to at least be able to have a similiar amount options of leaving as senior member as those the junior members have.

I know, as I pointed out many times in my post.

I want another way out, it doesn't seem reasonable that a Junior partner can war dec their way out of a union but the senior have to sit on their ass and wait it out.

So you basicly want to be able as Senior parter to declare war on the Junior parter and annex them?

No I don't, I want to be able to abandon the union for good and leave them to go their own way. I don't want to own France at this point, either in a union, as a vassal or as annexed territory, it isn't in my set of goals.

Take advantage of the situation and punish France for getting you into these wars: give away their provinces, especially the ones that are making them a war-magnet.

And the mechanics you deplore are actually quite reasonable.

Costs me prestige, time and considerable danger to my lands since everyone in Europe wants to fuck over France, it's a constant chain of wars that I have so far managed to win all of but they are tiring as hell.

I don't deplore the mechanics, I think the PU mechanics are pretty good, I just want one more, which is the ability to abandon rulership of a non primary nation to someone else or give away the nation to someone else or something like that.

Don't you have to claim the throne if you want to create a personal union? I mean, you don't just "somehow manage" to find yourself the king of France one day, do you?

Yes you do ... high prestige and diplomatic skills can make you king of a country you previously had a marriage with when their leader dies ... I've even seen direct inheritance!

Had a royal marriage for some early prestige boosts with France that I made some 35 years earlier, never claimed their throne, was just a product of that early bout of marriages to get up some prestige.

I don't usually mind getting odd PU's but France is a rather annoying one to have thrust upon me. Sure I could have just not accepted a marriage with France but accepting a marriage and accepting the throne of the France shouldn't really be the same thing I think.

Do they attack France solely because it bears the tag 'FRA', or do they attack it because of the condition it had gotten itself into before forming a PU under you? If the latter, you have the opportunity to alter the situation and thus remove the problem. Sometimes, losing a war can serve a Machievellian purpose.

The AI DoWs France because it seems weak. Are you in a formal alliance with them? If not, sign one. It may seeem silly but the AI only considers the overlord's military strength in the equation if a formal alliance is signed, even though war participation of a PU partner or overlord to a vassal is automatic. If you have a dozen provinces and fifty thousand men or so, all attempts to attack France will stop instantly. At that point, just treat France as a convenient sidekick. The day you inherit them, if you dont want their provinces, release them as a pretty powerful vassal. Theyll be done annexing theirs by then and theyll be very handy to keep around.

If you don't want the random PU to happen then don't grab the easy prestige for an RM, there are plenty of other christian nations to marry into...

Personally I'd say the PU mechanics are already so broken as to make the game laughably easy, adding in yet another way to abuse them isn't at all needed.

Not even through the console? I've never noted the console commands for being terribly respectful of the rules of normal play.

If he's going to use the console /kill dan would do the job anyway (once relations have been torpedod obviously). My interpretation is he's looking for a way within the normal confines of the game, perhaps so as to not disable any achievements and the like.
