I am very disappointed with the quality of Art of War and the state of the representation of the revolution in EUIV. I am a long time supporter of Paradox and an active participant in the community for over a decade. This is to say, I have seen Paradox releases in a much worse state than this.
However, I find the complete disregard for a feature to be intolerable. I have seen beta releases in better shape than this.
First of all, the Revolution only takes the revolutionary tricolour to a superficial degree. All of the cities and ships fly the original flag of the revolutionary target, if you zoom in to check. I could overlook this, if it were the only defect-- because we have heard some comments on the possibility of a dynamic flag system. A flag system we have been asking for since Victoria gave it to us. We asked for it in EU3, before it came out and were encouraged when Victoria II and CK2 both have dynamic flags. We asked for it in EU4 and it was overlooked. Changing flags has been a feature since the days of EU2, and I welcome it's return, if it is to return. But it has not returned, not yet.
Second, the game recognises the revolutionary republic as a monarchy in many ways and many events fire talking about expanding the royal bureacracy, as well as the primary army in the 1792 bookmark being called the Royal Army. Furthermore, the only rebels that weren't separtists were other revolutionaries. There was no counter-revolution in sight. Only those who wished to overthrow the republic to install a republic!
Thirdly, the ruler of Rev. France in 1792 is immediately replaced by some nameless random character. The Convention National is a non-entity in EUIV.
Lastly, the revolutionary cb is broken. You can declare war to spread the revolution, but you cannot spread the revolution! What threat is the revolution to the crowns of Europe? It doesn't inspire revolution by example and it cannot be spread by force!
That a feature of the expansion can be met with such disregard as to not function at all, when all of these are evident with only ten minutes of exposure is negligence! These issues must be fixed and addressed. The integrity of this company depends on following through with your promised features. As the reworked Revolution was one of the reasons I bought this DLC -- and expecting nothing more than what was advertised, which was any country becoming the revolutionary target and spreading the revolution through war, I feel cheated by the state of this feature.
