Played a demo game recently as Milan. Was drawn into a war with Castile and Aragon. I conquered Sardinia, and the Baelares, loaded up an army (3,000 inf) onto my entire fleet (14 ships) and set sail for Malta. Enroute to Malta, my navy disappeared. Vanished.

So, this sucked. Especially since up to this point i was owning both Castile and Aragon in naval battles.

Was this due to attrition, bad luck, my own ineptitude, an evil, slimy sea monster inhabiting the Mediterranean, or a bug that will be fixed in the final game.

Well, did you see if all the ships were 100%? If not they might've been taking damage by attrition for a while by the time they sunk. Else I don't know

I think it was most likely due to them being caught in an horrific winter storm..what month were you sailing?Attrition would have been much more gradual I would expect. One of the devs in another thread did say that there was a chance roll for each ship at sea in terms of weather effects......Sea monsters would be different ............. more of an EA game feature though
