how to script a plot (previously known as: Diplomatic options)

Just ignore all of this and skip to this clickity

Hi there,
couple of quick questions that modding veterans should be able to answer (hopefully).
Is it possible to add diplomacy options? One that I am severly missing (unless there's some other way to do it) is to legitimize a bastard AFTER the initial event. Let's say I have three sons and a bastard. I take him into my household but don't want him to be a rightful heir to my lands. Now all my other 3 sons die.
Welp, now all of a sudden I am in dire need of an heir so being able to legitimize the bastard would be nice.
(And if I'm not completely mistaken this is something that happened back in the days).
Or. Let's say I have more sons than I have stuff to give out to (or want to).
Welp, all of a sudden I am pretty sure that this kid is not my son or "hey son, you like monasteries, don't you? How about a life as a priest without ever being able to inherit any of my lands?"

(Just asking if it's possible to add stuff like that and if how. I am fully aware that this might upset the game balance but it feels to me as if stuff like this - which was more or less basic custom - should be in there somehow)

Thanks for reading (and answering ;) )

edit:
just thought about it and the "btw, this kid? Ain't mine, he's a bastard" thingie would/could work as a plot as well (and might make more sense that way).

I don't know about diplomatic options, but you'll be happy to hear that there's already a Decision to legitimise your bastards in the game. Also, I believe that it's already the case that if you make a son a Bishop they don't inherit.

Sometimes unlanded son would ask you for a fief - you can tell him, that he will take a church career. He takes it a little bad, but sometimes it's a good idea - if you have free investiture, he'd be a good candidate for prince-bishop. However, he doesn't lose right to throne - and such cases happened in history. For example Kazimierz the Renovator of Poland was a monk in early years.

Yes I know there's adecision to legitimise a bastard but I'm only aware of the event on the his birth.
And appointing someone as the successor of a bishop only works if your king isn't running papal investure.

@pothkan:
I'm pretty sure that in one game I appointed a son as a bishop's successor and he got removed from the succession line but again that only works with free investure.

Bastard and legit bastard opperate as traits.

All you have to do is script an event that will go

remove_trait = bastard
add_trait = legitimate_bastard (forget what it is exactly called).

Likewise you can change the dynasty, or define the father and mother.

Look up the hedgeknight knocks up a random courtier or your son has impregnated a maid events. That should give you the effects to script in.

I figured I'd be able to accomplish that as a event (since it's handled like that initially) But then I'd have to think of a trigger for it. That's why I was thinking to add it as a diplomacy option. Like grant honorary title just "legitimize the child" or something like that. Huh, guess that doesn't work :/

Just to make sure we're on the same page... I'm talking about the "Legitimise bastard decision", on the Intrigue page, which isn't only available at birth.

(Also, you can capture/create bishoprics, and make bishops that way. It's a bit of effort though)

Now I feel stupid. I never saw the "legitimise bastard" decision before >.<
Guess that one is off the table xD

The rest I still would like to figure out.
I just wanna find out if it's possible to add something to the diplomacy menu (and I don't see why it shouldn't) and if it's possible a general idea where to look as to how it works.

edit:
ok, figured it be better to do with via a plot.
A lot of the stuff that goes on in the objectives.txt is confusing as all hell, so if someone was willing (or already had) a nicely commented user made plot I'd greatly appreciate a link to it :)
