Biggest barrier is getting a CB that lets you take land without requiring DIP for the peace deal. Can you start a Holy War on behalf of a vassal's CB? If so then there are no breaks on the blob train. Of course Expansion will work for everything in Asia/Africa.

I wouldn't worry too much about the exact ideas your vassals get since you'll probably want to integrate one of them every so often in order to not have them so strong in comparison to you that they rebel.

Another big advantage is that truce breaking (low stability and WE) is substantially less of a problem when you aren't sitting on uncored land with nationalism. Your vassals won't take any penalties when you truce break.
