Hey all, I recently got started with the War in Heaven, and decided to stay completely neutral. The game offered me to become the leader of the Non Aligned Powers, but i declined. Later on, after reviewing the diplomatic landscape, I decided that joining the LNAP was in my best interests.
The LNAP is controlled by the third most powerful empire, one that I have pretty decent relations with. However, I'm a bit of an expansionist warmonger, and I've gotten under a lot of peoples skin. Still democratic, though, with lots of pro-individualist policies in place (free vote, xeno leaders, etc)
Anyways, Asking for federation associate status leaves me with just shy of -7000 acceptance. I guess this is understandable considering a lot of the nations in the federation don't like me.
So, i decided to try a diplomatic approach. Unfortunately, because these nations are in a federation, the only positive diplomatic actions are to either ask for association status, or full membership. Obviously, without doing some serious making up, this is never going to happen.
Am i just screwed here? Completely locked out of the federation because they didn't like me when it was founded? The only thing that i can think of doing is rearranging my policies to reduce some of the diplo penalties I'm getting, but considering i have to get EVERYONE in the federation to agree to let me in, that just isn't going to happen. :S
Or am i missing something here?

I'm the biggest empire in the game, but the non aligned powers federation is bigger than either fallen empire+vassals. Definitely wouldn't end well for me. Honestly, the only thing I can think of doing at the moment is just to hold on, and hope the fallen empires go after each other, instead of me. Seems to work so far... But i don't know if that will last!
