I would, but problem is that no matter how much testing is done, some people here will still think the player save is haunted and refuse to play with it... and I don't want to do a lot of work for nothing...

Well, I hope everyone realises that it's not in your own profit to play with an unstable save :)

Also, try to get an expert not playing in DU to post here :)

Okay - I will accept the non host save, but on one condiion - there is a MP test where we run the game for 10 years. If there is no bugs/freezes up to the end of the period, then we can use the player save.

You have the event history of a non host save, there have fired atleast some events most likely between the autosave and player save, all those events need to be put in also as happened, to do this you need to go through every nations event list and see what events would have taken place.

Also as stated before player save and host save may have irregularities like province ownership and such anomalies, faulty merchants and whatever else, loans or anything else in the game that simply would not be on the host machine but is on the client.

Things like these are what can make a non host save unstable if unchecked, and its an extensive list to go through if you want to confirm all aspects of the save to be flawless.

Still if you go through the event list for all nations from their respective event lists (yes every nation in game needs to be checked), and run the game in SP to 1820 without problems and run an MP test for like PJL said 10 years and the save is stable then I don't see why it can't be used. But do pay carefull attention to any possible irregularties like mentioned above, merchants, provinces, colonists, missionaries, armies, navies, manufactories, fortresses and whatever else like that.

I really don't believe that a player save can have all those errors. I have played with a player save before, last time in the Fantasia game (which is now dead, but for totally unrelated reasons). I consider this to be a witch hunt really, but I give up. Use the host save then, I'm not gonna check all events for all nations and run a dozen test games... it's not worth it.

I would consider any Fantasia scenario to be a special case (since there are no historical events in that one)., so much less likely to be screwed up if you use a player save.

It has already been stated that the events aren't much of a problem really, so that's not the issue at hand. But you guys keep saying that province ownerships change, things dissapears... and other poltergeist related stuff...

Sleeping major events is not very hard... If there are any-and there very well may not be, given how short a span we're talking about.

And surely, that's less damning than reverting to an auto-save before a war.

EDIT: Also, DOWing with me gone was a bit underhanded.

No, I probably would not have intervened immediately, but with Marlborough, a greatly expanded fleet and something approaching satisfactory income, she'd suddenly become very potent on the continent. It should've been my choice.

Baseball is just a game as well, and look how much fuzz a guy in the audience caused by catching a ball... ;)

Besides, would it really be the end of the world if the save gets corrupted? It is, after all, just a game...

My point is that I think everyone here takes this game serious in one way or another. And I don't think anything is wrong with that, given the fact that we actually spend 3 hours each week for several months on it...

IMO..

I think that *attempting* a player save is worth the effort. I.E, it is worthy of being attempted due to the circumstances.

If however, it dosen't work...And it shouldn't take much more then 10 minutes to find out...then we can revert to the autosave with no harm, no foul.

99.999% of my 'frustration' about this issue, is that many of you are unwilling to even *try*, despite the fact it hugely affects a half dozen nations. Its not like we were all sitting around just sending traders and chatting, two important dows occurred and 3-4 months of fighting.

Hell, considering that we have been waiting a half hour+ before the game starts to wait for latecomers, I think we'd have plenty of time to give it a quick test run.
