Diplo system in EU3 is quite OK, but I'd wish one change and an extra option:

1. Defensive alliances. Right now 1-3PM allied with a blob thinks they can declare on everyone and get help from their buddies. Having WW just for Wallachia attacking Ottomans is silly, especially when your relations are good-great.

2. Ever-lasting alliances. Sound strange but unless a country loses a war and an alliance is disbanded in peace settlement, I rarely see sudden cool-down of relations. Make it last for X years, f.ex. 20.

What would you like to see changed in diplomacy?

That actually happens sometimes. The Anglo-Portuguese alliance predates the EU3 time period and still stands....but you could argue that this is because it faded into irrelevance.

True but they also fought against each other, Portugal was merged with Spain for a time....and Portugal didn't really fight in the world wars >_>

I would mostly like to see the following (though there are probably much I want to see that I can't remember right now)

1. Ability to sell more land than just one province (to save diplomats mostly)

2. (MP only), want to be able to give away ships/and perhaps artillery etc (if it's made more expensive), and perhaps gifts the player can decide the size of etc. Transfer vassals and whatnot. (Want my human ally to be able to control my armies if I let him/her)

3. I want PU allies to occupy land for me and not for themselves

4. I want to be able to add nations to the HRE as emperor (Fawk yeah).....but perhaps only nations in Europe should be able to be added...and it would take waaaar or something

5. I want to be able to control my vassals troops or be able to tell my vassals not to have army/navy at all and concentrate on building their lands, or to what kind of military to concentrate at, like army only and no navy etc (1 ship cog isn't much of a navy anyhow)

Well, a lot of things really. Changes for the pope as well (since historically the pope was more powerful), but yeah, could be abused I guess >_>

What are you talking about? Portuguese troops fought in the trenches on the western front from 1916 and suffered a very high casualty rate from 2 divisions deployed as well as being involved in relatively small scale actions in Africa.

wikipedia said:
Portugal had 8,145 dead, 13,751 wounded, and 12,318 prisoners or missing. At sea 96 Portuguese ships were sunk (100,193 tons) and 5 Portuguese ships were damaged (7,485 tons) by German submarines.
This doesn't include civilian deaths caused by war conditions - Esitmated at 82,000 and an additional 108,000 from the Spanish flu if that is considered to be a result of the war.

Although neutral in the 2nd world war the Portuguese gave the Azores to the UK for use as a base which were used to provide aerial cover for shipping in the battle of the Atlantic.

I more meant that Portugal was neutal in both world wars, but in world war 1 they were declared upon by Germany

They were declared on because they seized 36 German and Austrian ships currently docked in Lisbon at the request of the British, Germany declared war in retaliation 2 weeks later and the Portuguese had been skirmishing with the Germans in Africa since August 1914

They where members of the peace conference of Versailes and even got something as spoils of war, what the heck are you even talking about? Just because they did not lose half a generation of men in the war does NOT mean that they did not fight *facepalm*
Also they where declared war upon by germany, so they where every bit at war like poland was in september 1939, with the only difference that Germany could not just blitzkrieg them....

I'd like to somehow be able to prepare allies or at least vassals for an upcoming war. If you could for example tell them that a war against France will start soon they could build more troops and stuff. Would be nice.

In a war situation I'd like to be able to control my vassals armies.

That's about it really.

That's the big one for me. Say I am at war with France and I have 4 OPM vassals. I'd rather have each of the vassals siege a province on their own while I handle the doomstacks. Instead 70% of the time they all siege the same province, and when the siege completes they march home. If I am lucky a few months later they will all band together to siege a second province together.

Defensive pact would be great
Renting/Giving units to a country would also be cool and a way to indirectly support wars by something more useful than subsides would be a plus.
