diplo annexing question

apologies I'm sure this has been asked before, but exactly how does religion affect diplo annexing, it says u can't diplo annex a country of a different religion, so how have i been able to d-annex the reformed netherlands with a protestant england, and a buddhist assam with a konfucian china? what exactly are the religious restrictions on diplo annexation ? thanks

The rule is that if you can have a royal marriage you can diplo-annex.

To diplo-annex somebody you need three things to be done:

1) Relation 190+

2) Country you want to annex must be your vassal for at least 10 years; to make somebody your vassal you must have royal marriage with him, what is possible only for countries with the same religion *

3) They must have a military alliance with you

In order to make a vassal you both must have the same religion *.
I think it's correct but don't hesitate to correct me if something wrong.

Protestant and Reformed are just variations of the same religion, and can inter-marry and annex each other.
