This has probably been discussed to death before
, but I'd like to discuss this again anyway.
I'm currently playing France, 6th game in a row and I can't seem to get the settings the way I like them.
I make the economy too hard, I get crushed in no time. I make the economy normal, half of Europe is French territory around 1500.
I set the agression level too high, my country is permanently burning by rebellions caused by war exhaustion because of the never-ending wars. I set it too low and the AI's are slaughtering each other while I'm putting manufactories up all over my empire.
This problem keeps cropping up if you play a major nation (but they tend to have very interesting histories). Any recommendations and comments are most welcome.
On an amusing note: The Hugenot events are just absolutely horrible. I lost half my empire to them when they suprised me after a major war and unlucky combination of horrible events. Ten years later I actually had to sue for peace when the rest of my neighbours started crossing my borders. Which is when I lost even more provinces to the French Catholics ('We need to toughen up on those Protestants, you weak king'). I'd lost 60% of my provinces and had no armies or money left with 60K of enemy troops looting my remaining provinces. I was completely aghast
. Most fun I've had in a game for quite some time
Cheers,
