difficulty setting changes after saving game

Is it a known bug or is there a fix for a problem where the difficulty setting changes to easy for England in the Grand Campaign. I set it for hard in the options menu, it seems to start that way, but if I save the game it changes the difficulty setting. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I think if you check the save game file you will see that the setting actually is changed and saved.

The problem is selecting the saved game and then checking the options screen and those show the default values, not the "current" ones for the save game.
