Hi all, I would like to share an interesting idea I thought about the other day and I, modestly, beleive this would be a little CK revolution if it is implemented in the game by the devs. So here is the idea. The game would have 3 different levels of gameplay. These 'modes' would have significant differences on how the player will be able to interact with the game and world around him.

God mode.
You are nobody, but you are also everything. You have access to everything in the game world and can push every character the way you want (kinda like the sims). Yet all the characters, realms and states should act individualy (events will fire for the AI). You are only god. But you should be able to select several people to 'follow' in their lives and control their destiny (receive events sent for those characters).

(Sure it could be described as very gamey/exploiting, but this would be VERY usefull for general bug hunting, AAR making and just fun for people who want to watch the world live on without really playing)

Man mode.
You follow only 1 person, live his life and deal, deal with his problems and dilemmas. When you die you get reincarnated into your heir (pretty much like in old CK). You should have the option to play as random characters at game start and when he/she dies.

Dynasty mode.
Same as Man mode, but you follow a whole familly and can manage each of its members. Your goal is to make the familly the most influencial, rich and powerful of the whole world (and not to die out).

I likey, they would be different than WC games, since they would be more interesting ( the man mode would be cool if it randomly selected a person from the world to be next to play*optional*). I would support these ideas.

I also agree that these ideas seem interesting but I don't see how the could be practical aside from the tried and true Man mode as it were. How would God mode handle events (an item critical to the Crusader Kings experience) for the umpteen billion characters that you are overseeing?

Random character selection is an interesting idea too!

Events should trigger for the AI, not you. You are only god. Then I guess, if you want to, you should be able to select several people to 'follow' in their life and receive the events sent to those characters.

Added to 1st post.

I would definitely like to see the possibility to play 'no one' (similar to God mode). For me, though, it's not that important to be able to intervene anyone's decision process. (But I would want to see all the info of all the characters as I would have been playing them (no fog of information).) I would love the option to switch on my laptop on Saturday morning, let it run CK2 on hands-off mode (where all the characters are led by AI), just leave it there and go outside into fresh air myself - and when I return in the evening, enjoy the generated alternative history (reading the history book styled game's log) complemented by the auto snap shots of political map (taken after each 50 years), check the family trees and DynasticGlory-type summary of the prominent houses of medieval Europe. Pure heaven!

Instead of Dynasty mode, I would prefer the option to be able to influence my dynasty characters slightly more indirectly. Capability to influence other nobility might depend on your ruler's and related character's titles and prestige, on their opinion about your ruler and his traits - higher position, more prestige, positive image and considered Wise makes your word count more. Your intervening in their lives would be done by events where more important AI characters from your own dynasty (who should be below your rank though) ask your opinion on important matters (marriage, war) and use your advice/order as a modifying input in their decision making process (though there will be a chance they ignore your wishes and wisdom completely). Depending whether the advice is followed, part of the event's outcome is ascribing penalties or bonuses to both of the characters involved (prestige, traits, change of opinion.) If implemented, this type of events have to be balanced to be rare enough not to bore you with constant irrelevant popups, but actually add flavor and value.

Sounds like "Sims - Medieval"

Would need more 3D graphics and roleplay to be fun... walk around your castle, build a new tower and decorate its interior... chat with the washing ladies... ride over to your neighbour's castle and challenge him to a joust... Perhaps a plug-in for CKII ? :p

I like dynasty mode with a mix of man mode: so you should get events as the dynasty leader asking advice from your family members and being able to arrange marriages and so forth. I like the feeling of running an entire family, with your hangers-on. I would like to be able to have my non-noble householders represented somehow, too, if only a sort of ai=no feature. It's something to play with as a mod once CK2 comes out, but it's the feeling of being a medieval lord that we should be trying to get at; world conquest is overrated.
