Hello fellow city builders!

Often I find it quite hard to distinguish between the ground and the grid and guideline color.

Have a look at this screenshot:
DMljcCg.jpg

The grid of unassigned zone at the left side is almost invisible in my eyes.

Also the transparend blue guideline color on a green ground doesn't make a lot of contrast.

Therefore I would like to have the option to change these colors in the options menu. Some preset colors will do but I don't dislike having a full featured RGB color picker. ;-)

I have noticed this problem also. It all depends on the color of the ground you are working with.
The only issue I see with them giving us options for color contrast, is that if we select a specific color that works will with green grass (like in your image), it will then not work well with another colored landscape later, in another part of the map.
So you end-up with the same problem all over again; thus nothing gained.

PS: That is just a small image of your city, but it seems that you and I build our cities in a similar manner. You have cul-de-sac like "sections," probably connected to the larger main artery roads (4 and 6 lane). This way you avoid the "Communist blocks" look, for your entire city. (The term Communist block was explained to me, as it was used in our forum, but I had no idea what it meant. It apparently means that one builds nothing but straight perpendicular grids for your entire city.)

The best solution to it would be a colour picker with live update (like colour correction override settings, if you switch between LUTs the changes are visible immediately and you don’t need to reload the save). Then we could adjust colours at any point during the game and there wouldn’t be a problem with contrasting it with any terrain.

Inverting colors is also a possibility. It'll make a lot of contrast in every kind of light condition.
But it might look bad.

I find the contrast issue to be so bad that I tend to avoid playing on tropical maps. Almost all of them are very bright. Half the time the lines are invisible to me which makes building really eyestraining.

@28rommel
I'm under the impression that checkboard-style blocks are a typical American thing.
I usually build 2 - 3 rectangular blocks which are connected to another 2 - 3 blocks at an angle. That's my simple strategy for good looks without messing around with too much curves. https://imgur.com/a/9mQza

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I struggled with this on a map I started yesterday. It was so bad I started looking for mods to address it. Since they don't exist going to have to search for the folder the gridline properties are held in.
