Too bad that the (presumed) box cover of the Swedish version is rather silly looking compared to the german version:
[referring to the old version of the swedish box]

Well, that's just my own opinion of course! :)

[update: the new cover looks much better!]

I prefer the Swedish box. Much more colorful, much more detail. If I was going to buy the game w/o knowing what it was in the store I'd choose the Swedish box definitely.

If I didn't know what was inside, judging by the Swedish box I would say that the game is a kids 3d action game. that box has a lot of bright colors which appeal to most people, (esspecially kids).
the German box has a lot of dark colors and a strange figure, (my guess would be an angel or a gargoyle), it also has dates at the bottom, so I would presume that the game is a strategy game.

also, some people might notice that the Swedish box is a lot of blue and some yellow which would appeal to Swedes because the Swedish flag is blue with a yellow cross.
it also has a lot of white, and in combinations with blue it appeals to people in Finland. Norway has a blue cross on her flag. so I can safely say that the box has those colors so it would appeal to the patriotic side of the residents of Scandinavia.
the German box has black, yellow and red. just like the German flag. coincidence?
I don't think so.

Nice points, Hetman.

I think the picture on the Blackstar site is pretty cool, too. It has the an angel (statue) with a dusky/sunset sky in the background. Same German colors.

Although personally I like the picture of a map of Europe engulfed in flames or lighted, nebulous clouds (can't tell which from the size of the picture).

Chalk up another vote against the Swedish box. Bad artwork, bad design and execrable typography. In short, it looks unprofessional (not that the German box is a marvel either).

Ah well, it is the inside that matters. ;)

I very much prefer the German Box(which of course also is the cover appearing on these pages).

The swedish one looks less professional and, as mentioned, more like 'a kid's game'. The German box looks moody, monumental and probably captures the spirit of the game(or at least my impression of the spirit of the game). The German box is also less cluttered.

Swedish box 3, German box 9.

Yes, I must re-evaluate my opinion. The German cover does more to capture the epic scope of the game. However, it is a bit drab. The Swedish box is much more colorful, but perhaps a bit too fantasy like.

Some drawings such as those mentioned in this thread may be good places for visuals needed to portray this game.

This is somewhat of a small issue compared with all that Paradox needs to do these days, but it is a part of marketing the game. Besides, feedback from 'the faithful' never hurts. :)

Yep i prefer too the German box and as Belgium has the same flag colors that Germany, i vote for this box for the release in Belgium ;). I agree the German one is more descriptive, the Swedish one definitly lacks a undertitle. The Swedish box has however nice graphics. But,except the flags, you could think it's only on the conquest of the new world.

Hmm seems me and Kronn have no taste .. oh well. I still go for the Swedish version, though I wouldn't refuse the German cover.

The Swedish version has beautiful contrasting colors, the theme imagery is exquisite, the ship, the 'conquistador' in his stance full of admiration, glory, yet still giving thanks..

This game started out mainly as an exploration game based on western Europe and the colonization powers, so I guess it's in keeping with the original theme.

I like the swedish box best, but it do make misstake of what type of game it is easier more so since it is missing the years.

If it was not for the year I would say that the original/german cover could easily be misstaken for some kind of Gothic RPG

Swedish cover's kinda...ugh. I wouldn't be drawn to it. It's too pretty. The German cover's more...serious, more historical...just cooler looking. :)

Well personally I find the swedish cover a bit childish(looks like a cover for a kids game), it doesnt look like a strategy game IMHO, probably 'cause of the 'cartoon' guy on the front, ie it should have been more realistic. I'm not too enthusiastic 'bout the german either but I think it's a bit better, at least it looks more for real.

hehe, yes they could have done without the cartoon guy on the front. maybe a battalion of musketeers preparing to charge would be more appropriate. i still like the box though...
