Just kinda brainstorming, and a thought crossed my mind about alliances in Paradox games. There's the HoI style, a bloc of nations, then there's the Vic/EU kind, where it's just between two countries. Would it be possible to put them in the same game? Pick and choose which single alliances you call to war, but the bloc always being called in on a defensive one, and only being defensive in nature, while the ones with individual nations can be offensive as well as defensive. Thinking about this, I think the AI would have trouble though with the concept, and would end up going into a suicidal war or not building up is defensive bloc. Also, is there a historic example of there being a defensive bloc in this time period?

I think your bloc setup is covered by coalitions which are from what I've read and as i understand them it's targeted against a single nation who is being overly expansionistic.
