ok, as the newsletter got my attention here i am.
can someone tell me what the difference is between EU and CK (besides the timeline).

i saw some screenshots and well....it could have been a mod of EU from what i have seen. but as so many are all happy about a possible CK2 i wonder what else it has for differences so it would be cool to have a new CK game.

thanks

In a nutshell EU is about running a country, CK is about running a dynasty.
The games are almost nothing alike other than that CK uses a modified EU2 engine.

In EU you have full control over a nation and its armies and diplomacy, but in CK you deal with invidual characters. Your ruler must marry and have children to propagate the bloodlines, you send children to a certain type of school and choose from events to shape them into future rulers, you try to inherit other countries by marrying your sons to their daughters;
you cannot simply conquer fellow Christians, but must first get claims by inheritance or fabricate claims on their lands;
You seldom rule over more than a handful of provinces directly, but rather have vassals who you must keep loyal or risk they spark a civil war.

Err... look at these videos for a good overview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7vXXKXQSSU

Ever heard of the Sheik of Praha? Or the Croatian Kingdom of Aragon? How about the complete collapse of the Eastern Roman Empire in 1126? Maybe the time that Anglo-French Crusaders were able to capture Baghdad? Possibly Mongol-controlled Paris? All are pretty much possible and have been done in CK, so you have pretty much free reign over whatever you and your family wish to do. In a current game that I am playing as the Kingdom of France, I have taken over most of North Africa and Aragon and was hit with an event by which the Pope offered me an Imperial Crown, so, its 1160 and I am working on recreating the Western Roman Empire since the HRE has completely collapsed.

Each game I played the world was very different in terms of what countries did and what they had for territories. I wouldn't say that CK follows historical lines aside from when you first start (the starting countries, rulers, etc).

In one of my games I started a the Count of Leon (north western tip of France), and eventually conquered a rather large portion of western Europe. To make things interesting, as I went along I kept on asking or forcefully removing my vassals (even the nice ones!) so I could put down another member of my bloodline (as in another [insert first name] of Leon) as a loyal vassal. My goal for that particular game was to "repopulate" Europe with my direct bloodline. :D

Basically CK was Paradox' first real sandbox game. The only historical acurateness was when you started. The only hard coded event in the game are the appearance of the Black Death and the appearance of the Golden Horde first and later the Il-Khanate.

The rest of the game is free flowing. Sometimes Germany collapse into a minor kingdom, other times they dominate northern and central Europe.

Often the Byzantine empire will collapse and never recover, other times they continue to dominate Asia Minor. Or maybe Venice or the Papal States will dominate North Africa.

Rarely you will see things like Hungary having Baltic possesions, muslim held provinces in England or Finland etc.

"Rarely"? I see North Africans invading Scotland and Flanders about as often as I see the reverse. The AI seems to understand "attaque, toujours l'attaque", even when such conquests would result in a realm that, in real life, would be totally unmanageable.

Great game, Crusader Kings.

Though for some reason the moslems still seem to be able to sail in the Atlantic. Not sure why.

If I understand Jordarkelf's replies on that correctly, it is an event that fires with a low MTTH, if muslim regiments come into any of the Atlantic seazones. The event then disbands the regiment.

As it is an event, some of the regiments might be lucky enough to actually get to their destination. But in most cases they would all be disbanded way before they reach England or Scandinavia.

I'm not sure if I put it in the current DVIP release yet. You might need to manually add it, check varia.txt: it should be the last or penultimate event in the file if it is present.

And yes, it has an MTTH of a month so the chance is there they make it to their destination, but the only way to do that is if they start from Morocco or Spain -- any trip from the Barbary Coast or further should take more than 30 days to reach the Atlantic coast of Europe.
I haven't seen many invasions yet so I don't know if it should be toned down, if you're still seeing the Sultanate of Denmark; you could try 20 days as MTTH instead. Would not set it much lower since the event engine is running overtime as it is.

Wait you mean the landlocked Emirate of Armenia isn't supposed to be able to take Sjaelland?
